An ultra-luxury sleeper train in Japan has a unique feature: customers can take a bath while they look out the window of the carriage.
The Train Suite Shiki-Shima, operated by East Japan Railway Company, is one of the most expensive trains in the world. As per the BBC, trips can cost around $10,000. As it only carries 34 passengers, it is also one of the most exclusive.
It is an ultra-luxury cruise train designed for slow, immersive journeys through Eastern and Northern Japan. As of June 2026, reservations are fully booked until March 2027.
The train is booked solid for months
According to its website, the train’s accommodation includes 15 standard suites and 2 deluxe suites, comprising a split-level maisonette suite and a single-level deluxe suite. All suites feature large picture windows, private showers, and handcrafted furnishings.
However, the deluxe suites also come with a unique feature. Passengers can make use of cypress Hinoki bathtubs. These are traditional wood-built tubs renowned for their therapeutic scent, heat retention and anti-microbial properties.
