Jason Bateman Questions Amy Poehler & Will Arnett About Their Split

Jason Bateman and Will Arnett were recently surprised by the appearance of the latter’s ex-wife and fellow actor, Amy Poehler, in the newest episode of their podcast SmartLess. The appearance led to Bateman enquiring about Arnett and Poehler’s former union. The two comedy actors wed in 2003 and separated in 2012, finalizing their divorce in 2016.

So what did Jason Bateman ask Amy Poehler and Will Arnett? Here’s all there is to know.

What did Jason Bateman ask Amy Poehler and Will Arnett?

Jason Bateman asked Amy Poehler and Will Arnett how the two first met in the latest episode of SmartLess and how their marriage started “to fracture.” Poehler’s appearance was kept secret from Bateman and Arnett by co-host Sean Hayes, who had invited her to the show. This is in accordance with the podcast’s format of letting the co-hosts take turns inviting a mystery guest, with the guest’s identity known only to the host who made the invitation.

Hayes explained Arnett and Poehler’s relationship history briefly to the audience and his sister Tracey before beginning Poehler’s interview.

Poehler revealed that she had put in a lot of effort to ensure Arnett did not know about her scheduled SmartLess appearance. She noted how their youngest child saw her schedule on the kitchen table. The former couple are parents to two boys: Archie (born in 2008) and Abel (born in 2010).

“‘You’re doing ‘Smartless?’ Does Dad know?’” the Parks and Recreation alum recalled telling her youngest son. “And I said, ‘No, don’t say anything.’” (via Soap Central)

Arnett claimed he had offered Poehler an invitation to appear on SmartLess. This caused Bateman to ask Hayes if he had discussed having Poehler on the show with Arnett.

In response, Poehler asked them why they had to “float anything past anybody?” The Inside Out actress then expressed delight at being invited to the podcast.

Arnett then opened up about Poehler’s parenting style, noting how she was “really good” at it, and that he tried emulating it. Moreover, Arnett also stressed being “proud of” their successful co-parenting partnership.

“There aren’t many people I speak to more than I speak to her, which is weird, you know what I mean,” Arnett added. “But it’s great. I feel really lucky.” (via Toofab)
