JJ Abrams' Gritty Justified Replacement Show Is Quietly Stealing the Spotlight on the Global Streaming Charts

J. J. Abrams’ Duster keeps going strong on the streaming charts, and fans of shows like Justified couldn’t be happier.

Per Flix Patrol, Duster, from creators J. J. Abrams and LaToya Morgan, the latter of whom serves as showrunner, is continuing to make its mark on the streaming charts. As of the time of writing, Duster has made its way to the number four spot on the top streaming chart for HBO Max for July 5, and it doesn’t show any signs of slowing down.

Released on May 15, Duster is set back in 1972 and stars Rachel Hilson as Nina Hayes, the very first Black female FBI agent. Hilson’s Agent Hayes works alongside Josh Holloway’s Jim Ellis, an exceptionally talented driver with a penchant for making hasty getaways, as she attempts to uproot and stomp out the Southern crime syndicate run by Keith David’s Ezra Saxton. The series’ leading cast also includes appearances from Asivak Koostachin, Camille Guaty, Greg Grunberg, Evan Jones, and Corbin Bernsen.

Duster is the perfect show for fans of series such as Justified starring Timothy Olyphant, as it hits on many of the same notes and themes. Like Justified before it, Duster showcases a gritty, rural setting and biting dialogue that only serve to drive home its overarching, morally ambiguous narrative. These aspects, coupled with the series’ cast of mostly likable anti-heroes, imposing underworld figures, and affable side characters, have catapulted Duster into the limelight as the latest fan-favorite crime drama.

How Good is J. J. Abrams' Duster, Really?

Duster has been lauded not just by critics, but by audiences as well, helping the breakout hit series amass some seriously impressive review scores, especially when compared to similar genre productions. As of the time of writing, Duster holds a staggering 92% «Fresh» rating via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across 39 critical reviews. The series’ «Popcornmeter» score currently sits a little lower at an 85% approval rating, as averaged across more than 100 user-submitted reviews of Duster‘s first season.
