New Steel Ball Run Anime Gets Major Production Reveal in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Update
Based on Hirohiko Araki’s long-running manga of the same name, the ongoing JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure anime series premiered in 2012, with its first season adapting the «Phantom Blood» and «Battle Tendency» story arcs from the original series. The series’ release came alongside the original manga’s 25th anniversary, and was celebrated by the likes of Araki and other industry insiders. The JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure ongoing anime series is produced by David Production and was followed by a second season, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures: Stardust Crusaders, in 2014.
The most recent entry in the series, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean, wrapped up in 2022 after its one-year, 38-episode run on Netflix. Like previous seasons, Stone Ocean was met with largely positive reviews from both critics and audiences upon its release. The previous series follows Jolyne Cujoh, the granddaughter of Jotaro Kujo and the great-great-great-granddaughter of the first season’s protagonist, Jonathan Joestar. As of the time of writing, Stone Ocean holds an 86% «Popcornmeter» score via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, as averaged across more than 50 user-submitted reviews.
The JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Steel Ball Run anime was confirmed earlier this year, and fans couldn’t be more excited. In the manga, Steel Ball Run brings readers back to 1890 to follow the paraplegic Johnny Joestar as he journeys to uncover the secrets behind an executioner named Gyro Zeppeli who, during a chance encounter with Jonny, temporarily restored the former horse jockey’s mobility. Fans got their first look at things to come back in April when a teaser trailer for Steel Ball Run was released. The trailer showcased images from past seasons of the show before giving viewers a glimpse into the world as it will stand when Steel Ball Run takes the franchise back over a hundred years.
