An underrated historical crime thriller is about to burst onto the scene of a new streaming home.
2024’s The Order starring Jude Law and Nicholas Hoult is officially being added to the Hulu streaming library. The Order will be available for streaming on Hulu beginning April 18.
Directed by Justin Kurzel from a script by Zach Baylin, which itself was based on Kevin Flynn and Gary Gerhardt’s 1989 book The Silent Brotherhood: The Chilling Inside Story of America’s Violent, Anti-Government Militia Movement, The Order stars Jude Law as FBI Agent Terry Husk. In the film, Husk is assigned to reopen the previously vacant FBI field office in Couer d’Alene, Idaho, where he quickly becomes aware of the growing white supremacist presence in the area. This soon spirals into an investigation into the real-life neo-Nazi organization known as the Order, headed up by Bob Mathews, portrayed by Nicholas Hoult.
The Order Is Inspired by Various Real-Life Events
The Order offers a somewhat fictionalized version of various real-life events, including the assassination of Jewish talk radio host Alan Berg (portrayed by comedy icon Marc Maron), as well as Mathews’ own gruesome demise. Apart from Law and Hoult, The Order features appearances by Tye Sheridan, Jurnee Smollett, Alison Oliver, Victor Slezak, Sebastian Pigott, Daniel Doheny, Odessa Young, and Morgan Holmstrom. Although The Order only received a limited theatrical release, it still managed to bring in over $2.3 million at the box office.
The Order was the subject of no small amount of concern from distributors, many of whom shared hesitation regarding streaming the film in the United States. When Amazon Prime Video acquired the rights to stream The Order across multiple territories including the UK, the United States was specifically not a part of that deal. Despite any controversy surrounding the film, The Order received rave reviews from critics and audiences alike, garnering it a 92% critical score and an 89% user score via review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes.
The Order will be available for streaming on Hulu beginning April 18.
