Just because Jujutsu Kaisen is an action-packed anime bursting with fight scenes doesn’t mean its characters don’t have some insightful things to say. In fact, the characters have more than a few philosophical discussions while throwing punches. And that’s not even mentioning the lines that define relationships and characters.
While every fan is going to have their own favorite quotes, there are some that stand out above the rest. After staying a while in the world of Jujutsu sorcerers and curses, here are the quotes we can’t stop thinking about.
Updated on April 14, 2025, by Asad Kashif: Gege Akutami’s highly successful manga Jujutsu Kaisen ended a while ago, but with a new season already in the works by Mappa, fans still have much more to look forward to. The last few chapters gave us plenty of words to write home about, and a rewatch of the anime adaptation has brought forth many more quotes that make us cry, rejoice, or get goosebumps from the sheer hype they possess. We’ve added these new quotes in and also updated some of the older ones to compile a complete and updated list of the best quotes in Jujutsu Kaisen.
This list contains spoilers for the Jujutsu Kaisen manga.
19 "Turn Up The Volume!!! Because This Is A Funeral For The Living!!!"
Kashimo, Chapter 187
If you’ve only watched the anime, you might not know Kashimo. He’s one of the reincarnated sorcerers who later joins the cast in fighting Sukuna out of his own personal desire. While his fight with the King of Curses was a spectacle in its own right, his first battle with the resident gambler, Hakari, isn’t one to be overlooked either.
While there is no deep meaning to be found behind the quote, it’s still memorable as one of the coldest quotes in Jujutsu Kaisen, said by Kashimo when he saw that Hakari was not your normal, weakling sorcerer. Instead, he was someone who might actually defeat Kashimo, something Hakari did end up doing later on.
18 "Love Is The Most Twisted Curse Of All."
Satoru Gojo, Jujutsu Kaisen 0
Themes of love and connection flow through the relationships in Jujutsu Kaisen alongside the tragedies the characters face. When Gojo initially says this to Yuta, we’re left wondering what the most powerful sorcerer in the show knows about love. The more we learn about how his closest relationship ended, however, the more we understand his outlook.
In a world where not everyone can be saved, and where love is a stronger motivator than any cursed technique (both Gojo and Toji’s fights end in defeat not because of strength but because of love), love represents painful inevitability. And all curses come from human nature, after all. Love, too.
17 "I Want To Have A Connection With Someone. I Want To Be Needed By Someone. I Want The Confidence To Feel Like It’s Okay To Live."
Yuta Okkutsu, Jujutsu Kaisen 0
Said by one of the most powerful characters in the series, this open need for human connection represents the flip side of the pain inevitable in loving someone. Another theme that runs through the story, the confidence and joy that relationships inspire, set the sorcerers fighting to protect their loved ones apart from the curses that exist and die only for selfish ends.
For Yuta especially, this quote shows us how far he’s come, to so plainly state his needs instead of shying away from them out of fear.
16 "I Don't Know How I'll Feel When I'm Dead, But I Don't Want To Regret The Way I Lived."
Yuji Itadori, Season 1, Episode 2
The beating heart of Yuji Itadori, this quote represents his view on taking on the dangerous, and possibly deadly life of a Jujutsu Sorcerer. He’s willing to die if it means he’ll have stayed true to his principles and acted in a way he doesn’t regret. To him, the cost of living with regret is higher than the price of dying for what he believes in.
Yuji acts on this philosophy throughout the series, guided by his heart. After all, dying in battle isn’t a guarantee, but making choices you have to live with moment to moment is an unavoidable reality.
15 "Domain Expansion."
Yuji Itadori, Chapter 264
The words Domain Expansion are used quite a number of times throughout Jujutsu Kaisen’s run. Each time it happened, we got to see the pinnacle of Jujutsu sorcery and the peak of power represented only by the strongest characters in JJK.
One of the most memorable and shocking use of this technique and in turn these words came near the end of the story, at the end of chapter 264 of the manga. In the previous chapters, we got to see Yuji become stronger and stronger, from not even knowing sorcery just a couple months back to making use of multiple techniques at once, including Choso’s Blood Mnaipulation and Sukuna’s Cleave and Dismantle, even using advanced applications such as Reverse Cursed Technique. With only a couple chapters to go before the series eventually ends, fans were eager to see just how far Yuji Itadori can reach, and he didn’t disappoint, almost.
The Domain Expansion itself was quite lackluster in terms of effects, but the idea of Yuji knowing how to cast one and him using it against Sukuna was one of the most memorable moments in Jujutsu Kaisen, and is something we look forward to being animated.
14 "The Only Thing Granted Equally To All Is Unfair Reality."
Megumi Fushiguro, Season 1, Episode 5
Our favorite cynic, Megumi can be almost completely summed up as a character by this one quote. Basically, he’s saying that life is unfair and that anyone who says there’s any sort of inherent or natural equality is either just projecting the ideals they’re enforcing themselves or is wrong.
Because he’s personally very aware of how unfair things happen to good people, Megumi is determined to use his skills to try and correct this inequality based on his convictions and not any of the other systems of belief, like karma, that have failed him. While more cut-throat than the world Yuji believes in, it’s hard to argue with his logic.
13 "My Six Eyes Tell Me You're Geto, But My Soul Rejects That."
Satoru Gojo, Season 2, Episode 10
Jujutsu Kaisen isn’t afraid to delve into the grotesque, and there are few things crueler than watching the person you once loved return as someone else years after their demise, only to attack you. Such was the dilemma faced by Satoru Gojo when he saw Geto’s body being used for Kenjaku’s own plans. Unfortunately for Gojo, due to the Prison Realm, this was one of the only times Gojo was powerless to do anything.
Instead, he could only see the situation for what it was. His Six Eyes, the single strongest sensory-type ability in the JJK verse, still recognized the body as Geto, but Gojo knew somewhere deep inside that that wasn’t the truth. We soon realized that Gojo was right, with Geto’s body acting against Kenjaku in an attempt to strangle him, showing that even cursed techniques aren’t infallible, and that some things can’t be explained through normal means.
12 “Finding More Fallen Out Hair On Your Pillow, Watching Your Favorite Stuffed Bread Disappear From Convenience Stores… The Accumulation Of Those Little Despairs Is What Makes A Person An Adult.”
Kento Nanami, Season 1, Episode 9
Within the context of the story, Nanami certainly feels like the authority on what it means to be an adult, so we trust his assessment. In this quote, he’s explaining to Yuji that one near-death experience doesn’t make an adult. He’s saying, instead, that it takes time and experience, that what it means to be an adult is to learn to cope with change.
He’s telling Yuji not to grow up too quickly, or to take himself too seriously, as there will be many things in his life that wear him down over time. He’s also telling Yuji that it’s moving on from despair both big and small that makes us adults. It goes hand in hand with Gojo’s quote in Jujutsu Kaisen 0 about not taking youth from the young.
11 "There Are Only So Many Seats Open In My Life, And I Don't Want To Let My Heart Be Swayed By Anyone Who's Not Sitting In One Of Them… Of Course, There Are Also People Like You Who Bring Their Own Seat And Sit Down."
Nobara Kugisaki, Season 1, Episode 24
In a vulnerable moment, Nobara says this to Yuji. She admits that she didn’t expect him to be someone important to her, but that he ‘brought his own chair’ into her life, becoming someone that she trusted enough to sway her heart. In an anime that’s almost non-stop action, it’s little human moments like these that make us care about where that action takes these characters.
This quote is especially touching in light of the events of Season 2, and the callback to it when we see Nobara surrounded by empty chairs, her friends all having brought their own.
10 "Kill Me If You Want To. Even That Would Have A Reason."
Suguru Geto, Season 2, Episode 5
The weight of killing, the morality behind what sacrifices Jujutsu Sorcers make to protect people, and the responsibility of having power are all core ideas that the main characters of Jujutsu Kaisen are contending with. This quote is a lynch pin in those themes. We see them here in Geto’s betrayal, and we see them throughout the fighting that Mahito and Yuji do.
What makes this moment so interesting, in fact, is the weight that it gives Yuji’s conclusion in that fight. He decides that he doesn’t have a reason, unlike Geto, who placed so much importance on the reasoning behind what he was doing.
9 "If It's Just Pain, Yuji Itadori Will Never Stop."
Nobara Kugisaki, Season 1, Episode 24
Jujutsu Kaisen’s protagonist might seem like any other shonen hero at first glance, and that certainly is the intent. However, we quickly get to see him go from a self-righteous hero who wants to prove that he’s a good person to someone that admits to just wanting to kill curses, taking no pity on Mahito even as he grovels on the floor.
Being Sukuna’s vessel, Yuji possesses resistance to many kinds of poison.
One of the earliest and coolest hints we got of how Yuji functions is a quote from Nobara when the two were fighting the Cursed Wombs: Death Paintings. When faced with an ability that rots you from the inside, dealing an amount of pain that’s supposed to render you immobile, Yuji continued moving forward, pummeling down the foe in front of him as if the pain didn’t even affect him. This became a recurring theme throughout Jujutsu Kaisen, with abilities that should rip away at you only being a meager inconvenience for the unstoppable Yuji Itadori.
8 "Stand Proud, You Are Strong."
Ryomen Sukuna, Season 2, Episode 16
Jogo is one of the most underrated characters in Jujutsu Kaisen, despite being one of the strongest curses we got to see in the show. He’s just unfortunate enough to have to battle the likes of Gojo and Sukuna, the latter of which actually recognized Jogo’s strength in their fight. Even if the fight was completely one-sided, it was one of the few moments in the series when we had Sukuna praise someone, even though he did it after burning Jogo to a crisp.
Sukuna also dropped some wisdom regarding what it means to be strong, saying the reason Jogo lost without putting so much as a scratch on him was because he kept comparing himself to others, not using his Domain Expansion because he feared it wouldn’t work. To Sukuna, you can only truly be strong if you stop caring about anyone or anything else.
7 "I Will Never Forget You For As Long As I Live, Gojo Satoru. You Were Magnificent."
Ryomen Sukuna, Chapter 226
Gojo’s eventual end was one of the saddest deaths in anime and manga history, shocking fans of the genre and even those who weren’t fans of Jujutsu Kaisen. While the actual killing blow being off-screen led to mixed reactions from readers, Sukuna’s last words to Gojo as he looked down on the latter’s dead body were etched into everyone’s minds.
It was the first time we’ve seen Sukuna genuinely offer respect to someone, showing just how absurdly powerful the strongest sorcerer of the present was. Furthermore, the literal translation from the original Japanese phrase could be an idiom that goes, «You cleared my skies.» This showed that despite Sukuna claiming to be a hedonist with no interest in anything other than himself, he still had respect for those stronger than anyone else.
6 "The Arm Is Merely A Decoration. The Act Of Applause Is An Acclamation Of The Soul."
Todo Aoi, Season 2, Episode 21
The only person who can compete with Sukuna in a contest of memorable quotes is Todo Aoi. Among the many great quotes he’s hit us with, one remarkable one is said during his and Yuji’s joint fight with Mahito in season two of the anime. Todo says this when you thought he would be decommissioned after losing one of his arms. The death of Boogie Woogie, Todo’s ability, was a saddening yet memorable moment and served to further increase how memorable this quote became.
The genius of the quote lies in how confident Todo was in saying it, hyping up the audience and intimidating Mahito, despite it ending up as a bluff. It betrayed expectations and served as a moment that sends chills down your spine, and also serves as a subtle nod to Hunter x Hunter’s fight between Netero and Meruem.
5 "Throughout Heaven And Earth, I Alone Am The Honored One."
Satoru Gojo, Season 2, Episode 4
When he says this after ‘coming back to life,’ Gojo is quoting Buddha himself. It’s this reference that puts this quote in an interesting light. Undeniably powerful, delivered in the throes of Gojo’s newfound abilities, this comes across as incredibly arrogant. But in the original context, it isn’t arrogant at all: the Buddha is the honored one. It’s a statement of fact.
Comparing himself so directly to a holy figure is, of course, still very arrogant, but it reminds us that this arrogance isn’t unearned. When you really are «the honored one,» and your abilities are so out of reach for everyone else, how do you keep yourself in check? How do you remain human?
4 "Because You're Weak."
Satoru Gojo, Season 1, Episode 6
Jujutsu Kaisen has many memorable quotes. From emotionally enticing words that make us cry to proclamations of power that make us squeal as a collective, Gege Akutami has mastered the art of blessing us JJK fans with plenty of content to talk about for days. However, sometimes a quote gets so popular that it precedes the show it was taken from, becoming a complete meme in its entirety.
This is what happened when Gojo interact with the cursed spirit Jogo for the first time, and replied to the latter’s threats with «You’re weak,» or in the original, «Yowai mo.»
The meme status these words reached aside, this simple string of words says so much about Gojo, Jogo, and the world of JJK as a whole, showing very early on how Gojo really is the strongest one, and why our protagonists and Jujutsu society as a whole are kept safe purely because of him.
3 "Are You The Strongest Because You're Satoru Gojo, Or Are You Satoru Gojo Because You're The Strongest?"
Suguru Geto, Season 2, Episode 5
This quote is a challenge issued by Geto to Gojo, and it represents a central tension in Jujutsu Kaisen. Is it the abilities that a person has what defines them or is it their will? This is a struggle not only for Gojo, who is defined by what he can do for the Jujutsu world from the time he’s born, but also for Yuji, who has to curate his own strength outside of his role as a vessel of the strongest curse, Sukuna.
Geto is also asking Gojo what strength means at all, and what it means to be strong in a world where people have the ability to manipulate reality with their abilities.
2 "The Bells Of The Gion Monastery In India Echo With The Warning That All Things Are Impermanent. The Blossoms Of The Sala Trees Teach Us Through Their Hues That What Flourishes Must Fade. However! We Are The Exception!"
Aoi Todo, Season 2, Episode 20
In the beginning of this quote, Aio Todo is drawing from The Tales of the Heike, a Japanese epic. However, he turns around and refutes the wisdom of this medieval classic, claiming that he and Yuji are the exception to inevitable loss. Coming in clutch at a time when Yuji has lost all hope, Aoi’s quote not only proves that he has unshakable faith in their abilities, but it’s also an incredible entrance.
This quote summarizes everything fans love about this character. He’s confident, supportive, and full of an infectious energy that rattles even the most established of traditions.
1 "Nah, I'd Win."
Satoru Gojo, Chapter 221
There are a number of factors that lead to a quote becoming memorable. Some quotes represent a battle of ideals, while some make you think about life differently. However, this simple quote has reached levels of popularity not seen in any other show, with people who haven’t heard of Jujutsu Kaisen and even non-anime fans knowing the meme status of this panel.
The quote, if taken seriously, is still amazing. It shows Gojo’s absolute belief in his skills as a sorcerer and acts as a callback to when Yuji asked Gojo if he could defeat Sukuna all the way back in season one. Still, the narrative side of this quote is often forgotten, and it remains as one of the more obscure quotes made popular by memes.
