A year and a half after Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2’s thrilling finale, MAPPA has finally confirmed that Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 is on the way, announcing a major update for the «Culling Game» arc.
At Anime Expo, it was finally revealed that Jujutsu Kaisen‘s «Culling Game» arc will receive the full anime series treatment, as Season 3 was finally confirmed to be in production. The announcement came as part of Anime Expo’s official programming during the Jujutsu Kaisen panel. Junya Enoki, the Japanese voice actor of Yuji Itadori, had this to say about the long-awaited anime adaptation: «I started recording already, and I can tell you, the battle scenes are on a whole different level. I would be excited about that if I were you.»
JJK Fans Get Official Season 3 'Culling Game' Arc Production Update
At the panel, behind-the-scenes footage of the Japanese voice cast recording for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3, based on rough storyboards, was shown to attendees, offering tantalizing glimpses of moments from the manga that fans have been eagerly awaiting in the anime. The full English and Japanese voice casts are expected to return for the «Culling Game» arc. According to Enoki, the most significant change for Yuji in Season 3 is that he now knows what and why he’s fighting for, following the events of Season 2.
Jujutsu Kaisen Season 2 concluded with the «Shibuya» arc, leaving Tokyo in shambles after Kenjaku’s orchestra of chaos wreaked havoc on the city. As Jujutsu Sorcerers and Curses are both weakened, the stage is set for the Culling Game to begin. Anime Expo’s Jujutsu Kaisen showcase repeatedly confirmed that the «Culling Game» arc is currently in production and recording, reportedly as a standard anime TV season rather than a movie adaptation. It’s unknown if Jujutsu Kaisen will receive a Season 4, although it would come as no surprise if the hit anime were renewed once more to round out the manga’s run, which left the internet divided over its final chapters.
Jujutsu Kaisen's Culling Game Arc, Explained
The Culling Game itself is a battle royale-style clash between 1,000 Jujutsu Sorcerers, helmed by Kenjaku. During this massive showdown, cursed energy is accumulated by Kenjaku as Sorcerers attempt to take one another down and become victorious. Kenjaku is able to use the Culling Game as a form of manipulation, taking strides towards accomplishing his mission of merging all humans with Master Tengen.
10 colonies across Japan will face off, all while unknowingly contributing to Kenjaku’s means of domination. Any contestant in the Culling Game that does not abide by Kenjaku’s rules will have their Cursed Technique removed; points are awarded to players as they kill others. Those who have earned at least 100 points are allowed to create their own rules. The Jujutsu Kaisen anime is widely anticipated to introduce new characters who later appear in the manga, which could bring about the highly anticipated anime debut of Kinji Hakari.
An official trailer or release window for Jujutsu Kaisen Season 3 has yet to be announced.
