The NBA Finals games haven’t even started yet but one Knicks player already knows he is guaranteed to get a ring regardless of the results.
After a long rollercoaster ride of an NBA season, we now know that the New York Knicks will play the San Antonio Spurs for a shot at the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
The best-of-seven finals will commence on Thursday, June 4. But, no matter what happens, Jeremy Sochan has got a championship ring in the bag already… if he wants it, that is.
Jeremy Sochan is already guaranteed an NBA ring after playing for Knicks and Spurs this season
At the start of this season, Sochan was plying his trade for the Spurs. But despite an impressive showing since he signed for the team in 2022 and a strong partnership with Victor Wembanyama, Sochan fell out of favor midway through this season.
The Spurs couldn’t find him a new team before the trade deadline in February of this year and so waived Sochan’s contract and put him on the free agent market. That’s when the Knicks snapped him up.
As for the NBA Finals, the rule is that a championship ring can be given to any player that has represented a franchise during that season. With Sochan having played for both teams this term, he technically can’t lose.

However, there are a couple of catches. For one, the Spurs would have to agree to offer him the ring. Given his successful stint there, there’s no reason to suspect they wouldn’t.
Then, Sochan himself would have to accept. In 2016, Anderson Varejao had left the Cavaliers to join the Golden State Warriors, and when the Cavs won the NBA Finals, he was offered a ring, which he declined.
