The Two-Faced Overseer has two forms; green form and red form, each with different attacks to watch out for.

Suggested Counters

Dragged Staff

The Overseer crouches with their staff dragging to their left. They then unleash a diagonal upward attack.

Parry or dodge forward.

Spinning Combo (Green Form)

Starting from its right, the Overseer performs a two-cycle spin rotation with their staff outward. As the staff hits the ground at the end of the second spin, it then performs a diagonal upward slash similar to above.

Parry all three attacks. Then make your own attack.

Quick Strikes (Green Form)

Roaring, Overseer picks their staff up and holds it to the right. It performs a downward diagonal slash. Then, after a delay, performs a quick series of smaller downward strikes.

Parry the first attack. Then, quick-parry twice or dodge-step forward twice.

Simple Lunge (Green Form)

Running toward the player, the Overseer performs a quick and simple arcing sweep with its staff.

Dodge forward.

Simple Blows

Picking up its staff over its head, the Overseer performs two standard overhead swings and then a third, delayed, swing.

Parry all three attacks. Then, attack.

Red Form

Red Form Transition

Turning red and clutching its face, the Overseer crouches and lets out a roar that pushes anyone nearby away.

Continue attacking for as long as you are able. Standing behind the Overseer sometimes renders immunity to being pushed away.

Spinning Combo (Red Form)

Similar to the green form, but three spins are performed instead and are slightly faster.

Parry all three attacks or run away and throw items.

Spinning Deflection (Red Form)

Raising its staff into the air, the Overseer performs a quick spiral attack that strikes only in its immediate vicinity.

Dodge backward.

Savage Blows (Red Form)

Holding its staff out to its left, it performs alternating diagonal lunging slashes forward for four total strikes. On the fifth attack, the Overseer performs a quick upward diagonal strike from the right.

Once the staff is held above its head, it holds its pose for a delay before unleashing two quick, merciless downward slams and a third delayed slam.

Backpedal, parrying as much as you are able. If struck multiple times, dodge backward until the combo ends and heal.

Ripping Staff (Red Form)

Bringing the staff back to its right beside its head, the Overseer lunges and plunges its staff into the ground ahead. Then, it rips the staff back toward it, pulling the player with it.

Dodge-step to the side and stay away from the staff. Dodge twice if you’re too close.

Like Tyrannical Predator, there isn’t much going on for the Two-Faced Overseer in his attacks — especially in his Green Form. Most of his attacks are comfortably parryable.

However, some of his delays and the amount of potential visual effects from Alidoro’s attacks can make seeing cues for a parry a little tricky.

The most important takeaways from his attacks are as s:

  1. Backpedaling too much and panic-rolling will be severely punished.
  2. Guarding sloppily is usually better than panic-rolling.
  3. If you need a break from his attacks, you can let Alidoro take the heat for a bit. Just stop attacking for aggression to shift.
  4. Red Form is faster and more brutal than Green Form.

In fact, if there are any attacks you need to focus on, you should look at the chart above to study Red Form carefully. Most deaths from Red Form will come from Savage Blows.

The building blocks of how to parry Savage Blows come from practicing with simpler Green Form combos. Therefore, parrying as much as possible in Green Form is highly recommended to prepare for Red Form.

Before you do anything else in this fight, the first thing you’ll want to do is use the Daylight-Wreathed Horn Alidoro gave you. It is an equipable item, so place it in your inventory before entering the fight.

Once the fight begins, blow the horn, and Alidoro will appear.

Alidoro cannot die during this fight, but he can be downed. If, at any time, the great hound is defeated, you can revive him by interacting with him during the fight. There is a slight wait time for the animation, however, so choose your moment carefully.

The Overseer's Two Forms

The fight begins with the Overseer in Green Form. This form of the Overseer is milder with fewer and slower attacks in his combos. You can identify this by the green helmet.

Once Overseer’s health has been reduced by approximately 25 percent, he will transform into Red Form. This will make him far more dangerous and aggressive.

Knocking Overseer down for a Critical Hit will stagger the boss out of Red Form and back into Green Form. Therefore, two things are true:

  1. The longer this fight carries on while he is in Red Form, the more dangerous the fight will become.
  2. Being aggressive and parrying where possible in Red Form will speed Overseer back into a more tolerable foe.

Overseer going into Red Form can happen more than once in a single fight. Anytime his health is reduced by 25 percent, he will be at risk of transforming. Therefore, it is likely he will transform a minimum of twice.

With your strategy for Green and Red Form understood, knowing how to attack with a partner in combat will be your last and most vital ticket to success.

Therefore, to make the most of having aid against the Overseer, practice these good habits:

  • Do not let Alidoro take too much attention. If he is knocked down, the Overseer will only attack you.
  • Stay aggressive but be mindful of Overseer’s arcing and sweeping attacks. Some can turn and hit behind him.
  • When you need a break from his aggression, step back to heal but continue using Throwing Items.
  • Use Strong Attacks as much as possible to stagger the Overseer out of attacks.
  • Stay close to Overseer to juggle aggression but also to be prepared for an inevitable Critical Hit opportunity.

Overseer is cripplingly weak to Fire damage. Using Fire Canisters and Thermites are very useful here. However, we do not recommend Flamberge as the dark setting and large fire effects can obscure crucial tells for attacks.

Once the Overseer is finally defeated, you’ll be given a Full Moonstone of the Covenant and the Bloody Cipher Machine.

Speak with Alidoro, and he will return to Hotel Krat. While he won’t be able to exchange rare Ergo for unique weapons, he will act much like Venigni and offer to unlock Cipher Machines for unique rewards.
