Mafia: The Old Country Explains Its Budget Price

When Mafia: The Old Country launches on August 8, it will be doing so at a budget price of $49.99. Mafia: The Old Country has been highly-anticipated since its initial reveal, and soon fans of the franchise will get to see if it lives up to the hype.

Mafia: The Old Country confirmed its August 8 release date in a recent presentation that gave fans their best look yet at the gameplay and 1905 Sicilian setting. One of the more surprising details that came from the event was the fact that Mafia: The Old Country will retail for $49.99, as opposed to the industry standard of $69.99. This has left some fans confused or even worried that the game will not match the quality of other modern releases, but 2K has offered an explanation about Mafia: The Old Country‘s budget price.

As reported by Dexerto, 2K president David Ismailer has revealed that the reason Mafia: The Old Country has a budget price is because the game is going to be shorter than many other modern games. Ismailer believes that «there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments» and that Mafia: The Old Country will deliver a «linear, highly-polished narrative experience.» This approach will also see Mafia: The Old Country ditch the open-world set-up found in previous games in the series.

How Much Does Mafia: The Old Country Cost?

  • $49.99 — Standard Edition
  • $59.99 — Deluxe Edition
    • Padrino Pack
    • Gatto Nero Pack
    • Digital Artbook
    • Original Score

It’s likely that Mafia franchise fans will be split about the lack of an open world and the game’s shorter runtime, but others will likely be happy about the news. Not every game needs to be a massive open world that takes dozens of hours to complete, and it’s nice to have something that’s short and sweet every once in a while. Mafia: The Old Country‘s budget price will certainly make its shorter runtime easier to accept, and it will definitely be interesting to see how it performs commercially. In a day and age when some games are selling for $80, $50 is not a big ask at all.

Mafia fans that are willing to pay a little extra for The Old Country may want to consider picking up its Deluxe Edition. For $59.99, Mafia: The Old Country‘s Deluxe Edition comes with the Padrino and Gatto Nero Packs, which give players outfits, accessories, vehicles, and weapons, as well as the Digital Artbook and Original Score. Anyone that pre-orders Mafia: The Old Country regardless of which edition they choose can also look forward to getting the Soldato Pack, which comes with its own cosmetics and a «helpful Charm.» There do not appear to be any early access schemes when it comes to Mafia: The Old Country, so Mafia fans can safely circle August 8 on their calendars.
