David Oyelowo (Selma, Silo) is set to lead the upcoming Treasure Island TV adaptation, MGM+ and Paramount+ announced. He will be joined by stars from Marvel and Boardwalk Empire.
Who’s starring in the Treasure Island TV show?
The six-part adventure series will see Hayley Atwell (known for her roles in Captain America: The First Avenger and Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning) playing the role of Bess Hawkins, while Jack Huston (American Hustle, Day of the Fight) will play Aaron Graham. Meanwhile, Oyelowo has been tapped to play the role of Long John Silver.
Other stars joining them include Tomer Capone (The Boys) as Billy Bones and Tom Sweet (Childhood of a Leader) as Jim Hawkins. Production has already begun this month, and the series will premiere on MGM+ in the United States and on Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland.
Treasure Island is an 18th-century adventure novel by Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson. Published in 1883, the story has inspired numerous adaptations for film and television since 1918, with MGM+ U.S. and Paramount+ UK & Ireland’s project serving as the latest adaptation.
Described as a “bold, high-stakes coming-of-age adventure series for a new generation,” the new version of Stevenson’s epic will center on the transformation of teenager Jim Hawkins into a strong young pirate. The plot synopsis reads as follows:
“When Jim gets his hands on a legendary treasure map, his mother Bess’s clever and decisive actions leave him holding valuable knowledge that puts both of their lives in danger. Sailing aboard The Hispaniola, Jim and Bess are caught between the charming, terrifying pirate Long John Silver, and the debonair, duplicitous British agent Aaron Graham. Jim must grow up fast as he and his mother fight for survival on a voyage where alliances shift, secrets multiply and peril closes in from all sides.”
The release date for the Treasure Island TV show has yet to be announced.
