One of McDonald’s limited-edition menu items for the World Cup has got fans begging for the return of a long-time favorite.

With the 2026 World Cup around the corner, plenty of food and beverage brands have started rolling out their limited-time offerings to celebrate the summer tournament.

As McDonald’s is one of the main sponsors, they usually have something up their sleeve as well. Over the years, they’ve given away free balls with meals, added some team-themed menu items, and just embraced the World Cup in a big way.

McDonald’s have already launched their World Cup-themed menus in a few countries across the world. That includes Germany, which has a Crispy Chicken Dog item that reminds fans of a firm fan-favorite.

Crispy Chicken Dog reminds McDonald’s fans of Chicken Legend

That’s right, the Crispy Chicken Dog reminds some fans of the Chicken Legend, which had been a staple of the menu for 15 years.

Where the Crispy Chicken Dog differs, however, is the fact that it is prepared like a hot dog with a soft bun taking the place of the crunchy bakehouse roll.

The Chicken Legend was sadly discontinued back in 2022, and there have been regular calls for it to make a return. Those have ramped up again off the back of the Crispy Chicken Dog being available in Germany.

“Just bring back the chicken legends for the love of gawwwwd!” one viewer commented on TikTok. “Close enough, welcome back Chicken Legend,” another said. “Just bring back the chicken legend,” another replied.

The German McDonald’s menu has caused a few stirs over the last few months. Back in April, they unveiled a purple menu in celebration of Grimace, which included a purple BBQ burger with purple sauce.

Naturally, fans urged McDonald’s in the United States and elsewhere in Europe to follow suit. “Purple cheese?! Wow, I’m missing out,” one said. “WHY AREN’T WE SELLING THIS IN THE US?!” another asked.
