Free Roam mode in MindsEye unlocks after you finish the main story and lets you explore the entire city of Redrock at your own pace. You play as a new character called the Preacher, and this mode gives you full freedom to move around, fight gangs, and try out the world without being locked into story missions.

This guide covers what Free Roam mode includes, what’s available at launch, and how it’s expected to grow.

What Free Roam Actually Does

Once the campaign ends, Free Roam mode drops you into Redrock with no mission objectives or restrictions. The 6×6 km playable area is fully open, meaning you can drive, fight, explore, or just mess around without limits.

This includes downtown, suburban edges, and outer desert areas.

You don’t need to find a garage or use menus to get a car. You can just summon your personal vehicle straight to your location.

You’re Playing as the Preacher, Not Jacob

You do not play as Jacob Diaz in Free Roam. Instead, the mode puts you in the shoes of the Preacher, a separate character who exists outside the campaign.

This avoids narrative conflicts and gives you more room to experiment with gameplay.

Fight Gangs and Explore Redrock

At launch, there are enemy gang encounters scattered around the map. You can choose to engage them for fun or just roam the city without starting trouble.

Redrock is made up of several districts, each with its own population density, vehicle types, and atmosphere. This variety helps keep exploration interesting even when not doing missions.

No Main Story or Missions, but More Updates Coming

Free Roam doesn’t include campaign missions or objectives. It’s not a side-quest hub either. Right now, it’s a pure sandbox mode.

However, Build a Rocket Boy has confirmed that Free Roam will keep expanding post-launch. They plan to keep updating it with new features, possible content drops, and even consider multiplayer support in future patches.

Good for Build Mode Testing Too

If you’re interested in Build.MindsEye, you can enter creative mode inside Free Roam. The game lets you mess with props, enemy placement, and even add logic-based scripting using the same tools the devs used. This is currently PC-only.

Console players will still get monthly mission and content updates via the Play.MindsEye tab.

Final Blurb

Free Roam in MindsEye is basically the chillax zone after the story ends. It’s where you get to enjoy Redrock without restrictions, fight gangs on your own terms, or just cruise around in peace.

There’s not a ton of structure yet, but updates are coming, and the potential is there for something bigger.
