Maybe it will actually feature Herobrine this time

After the massive $961 million global box office success and endless memes, Warner Bros. and Mojang have announced that a Minecraft movie sequel is coming. On social media, the companies revealed that A Minecraft Movie Squared has now been confirmed as the official name for the sequel. While many probably expected a boring, straightforward Minecraft Movie 2, the team appears to have had a little fun. The name is an obvious nod to ‘squared’ as a mathematical term, a sequel, as well as the game’s blocky look.
Aside from the clever wordplay, though, details about A Minecraft Movie Squared remain scarce. Right now, no story information or release window has been revealed. As well as whether previous cast members — including the meme-worthy Steve played by Jack Black — will reprise their roles in the sequel.
Ready for another adventure?
The world of #Minecraft is expanding once again with A Minecraft Movie Squared! And we’re not stopping there…To celebrate, we’re kicking off an exciting new Build Challenge! Get ready to create epic builds inspired by the world of Minecraft and earn an exclusive cape!
To celebrate the reveal of A Minecraft Movie Squared, Mojang is also launching a competition inside the game itself. Dubbed the ‘Minecraft Movie Build Challenge,’ it gives fans a chance to create movie-inspired builds for rewards and, potentially, a place in Minecraft history.

The grand prize is a pretty massive flex for any hardcore fan of the block-building game. One winner will receive a private screening of A Minecraft Movie Squared with friends, while their build could also appear in the movie. To enter, players must submit entries with a short 15-to-30-second video and a screenshot of their build through Gleam.io between May 30 and June 8. The competition is limited to one entry per person, and participants must be at least 16 years old.
There is a catch, though. Instead of unlimited creative freedom, participants are restricted to using the Build Challenge map and a 16x16x32 block build area. It must also use a curated selection of approved blocks and mobs, and the theme must fit within one of four biomes: plains, taiga, badlands, or frozen ocean. More details can be read on the official Minecraft.net’s blog.
But if building giant structures is not exactly your thing, Mojang is also handing out a free reward. Minecraft: Bedrock Edition players can claim an exclusive Builder Cape by watching eligible 3-to-5-minute Minecraft livestreams on Twitch or TikTok between May 30 and June 14.
Are you excited for A Minecraft Movie Squared? Let’s just hope this time, theaters are spared from another round of chaotic Chicken Jockey-tier reactions.
