YouTube star Jimmy ‘MrBeast’ Donaldson has revealed that he spends “millions” on storage for the footage of his Beast Games show as he is “done losing tonnes of money.”
MrBeast’s Beast Games series has been the most successful project from a YouTuber that has made the jump into the mainstream. The curtain came down on the second season back in February, and he’s already started planning season three.
However, Donaldson has noted that the show has cost him more than expected to keep running. A storm in Las Vegas delayed the filming of the second season, which saw the YouTuber lose more than $1 million every day.
While it is backed by Amazon and distributed on Amazon Prime Video, these unexpected costs are headaches for Donaldson and his Beast Industries team. However, with planning for season three underway, he’s “done” with “losing tonnes of money” on the show.
MrBeast spends “millions” just to store Beast Games footage
Speaking to RHAP TV on April 6, MrBeast revealed that he spends “millions” to store the thousands of hours of footage from filming, and that he can’t do it on YouTube just yet.
“You can’t really, at the moment, tell long 10-episode stories on YouTube, and I, first and foremost, want to tell longer, greater stories and go bigger and more grandiose,” he said. “It’s not even financially feasible to do something like Beast Games on YouTube. The math doesn’t math.
“Season one, if you knew what we spent, you’d be like “what you f**k?” We lost a lot of money on season one, and I’m done losing tonnes of money. YouTube is just not the correct place to put that kind of content, even if it was financially feasible.”

MrBeast said that he also “understands viewers better than anyone else on the planet,” but he struggles to understand the Beast Games contestants.
He also told Jon Youshaei that it is a “miracle” if he works a 15-hour day on Beast Games and that he has a stunt double for his YouTube thumbnails.
