Arun Maini, better known by his online moniker ‘Mrwhosetheboss,’ is a British tech YouTuber with over 22 million subscribers.
A large portion of his life is shared online, whether that be through his YouTube videos or by snapshots of his travels on Instagram… but there’s one story he hadn’t told anyone.
In May 2026, Maini sat down with Dexerto for an exclusive interview where he shared his experience going through US Customs and Border Protection.
At the time, he’d been hired to cover a “high-tech stadium” in the country, but was stopped short at the airport before he could meet the team that was waiting for him.

Maini says that Border Protection officers took him to a back room for an interview, where they began grilling him about his activities in the US and the reason for his travel.
“They started asking me more and more questions, digging into this,” he told us. “It started to become really heated. It started to become accusatory, as if I’m stealing money from the US or something like that. And eventually, they took me into a deeper room.”
Maini says this room was stocked with firearms and armed guards. He was escorted into a cell, where he was made to strip off all his clothing and submit to a search.

“They took me into a cell and they took all my clothes off, and felt around in all sorts of ways. Very violating stuff, let’s just say. Then they let me put my clothes back on. I even had to take my shoelaces off.

“They still wouldn’t give me my phone back. I was stuck in this cell. No ability to contact anyone, family had no idea where I was. …there were dodgy people in this area with me. I was just there like, ‘What did I do wrong?'”
Maini was finally sent back home 26 hours later. He was left “traumatized” and unable to fulfill his obligations to film the video, ultimately losing out on $300,000. As for the reason for the search? Maini says he wasn’t flying with the correct visa for his trip
Now, he says he’s always escorted to an interrogation room each time he travels stateside, saying there’s a “black mark” on his record due to the incident.
“It’s scary. I don’t like it. …I was distraught,” he told us.
