My Hero Academia recently released its latest fanbook, My Hero Academia Ultra Age. This book was highly anticipated, especially as it’s the last MHA fanbook, and fans were definitely not disappointed with the massive amount of information revealed by Horikoshi. Horikoshi dove deep into his process of coming up with Bakugo’s death and revival.
Bakugo’s Death In My Hero Academia Happened In The Final War
Fans Were Shocked By The Death
Bakugo’s death was definitely one of the most shocking moments of the series that fans experienced. Nobody saw his death coming, and many believed there was no way Horikoshi would kill off Bakugo. In that sense, they would definitely be right.
Bakugo “died” in the series after getting a fatal wound from the series’ main villain, Shigaraki. However, as many fans suspected, he was not left to die, and instead, Horikoshi chose to bring him back for one of the final arc’s biggest battles, the fight against All For One.
Bakugo had sustained severe damage from the attack, even damaging his heart, but he was saved by Edgeshot’s power.
Horikoshi Reveals He Always Planned To Revive Bakugo
It Was All Just To Showcase Shigaraki’s Power
Horikoshi revealed some very interesting information about the entire event surrounding the death of Bakugo. He reveals that he had always planned to bring back Bakugo from his supposed death, and even consulted with his editor if it was fine to kill him and make fans wait about a year for him to return to the manga, which his editor agreed to, even though he was wondering if fans would be okay with such a long wait without Bakugo.
Even though he revived Bakugo, which many fans didn’t like, he at least tried to make it as realistic as possible. It’s revealed that Horikoshi even consulted with emergency response teams to inquire about how one could revive someone with a damaged heart.
The answer to that was to have someone stitch their heart back — which is why Horikoshi chose Edgeshot to get him back up.
Was Killing and Bringing Bakugo Back a Good Idea?
There Could Have Been Better Alternatives
The only reason Horikoshi chose to kill off Bakugo was to showcase just how powerful Shigaraki was. However, since Bakugo is so essential to the story and a fan favorite, he had to be brought back. Many anime fans hate fake-out deaths, and for obvious reasons.
Many believe a better alternative to this would have been to have Shigaraki take out another powerful hero who wouldn’t have to be brought back afterwards, and this could’ve worked well.

The My Hero Academia manga was concluded by the mangaka, Horikoshi. The story features 430 chapters for fans to read. All these chapters can be found on Manga Plus, as the story used to be serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump when it was still ongoing.
