NBC Cancels Found Ahead Of The Season 2 Finale

Found has been cancelled by NBC after just two seasons. It’s been a difficult day for fans of the network’s primetime lineup, as several dramas and comedies have been axed at NBC in just a matter of hours. Night Court, Lopez vs. Lopez, and Suits: LA have all been cancelled. Two other series, which seemed to have a promising chance to be renewed, have arrived at the end of the road.

Deadline has confirmed that the missing persons’ crime drama Found has been cancelled by NBC. Warner Bros. Television, which produces the Shanola Hampton-led show, may consider finding a new home for the project. Although executives at Warner Bros. TV were optimistic about the show’s renewal chances, it’s reported that steep viewership declines and shifting budget priorities factored into the cancellation decision. The Irrational was also cancelled by NBC, after two seasons, for similar reasons.

Why NBC Decided To Cancel Found

A Number Of Factors Worked Against It

Though its record has since been supplanted, Found was the top premiere on Peacock at one point. Its premiere garnered 10.5 million viewers in the first week, gaining a speedy renewal for season 2. But the crime drama’s fortunes have dwindled since then. The second season draws an average of 2 million live viewers compared to well over 3 million for much of the first season.

The chances of Found season 3 were likewise impacted by NBC’s shifting priorities in terms of its budget and scheduling. The network will have to give over 180 primetime hours to the NBC next season, which played into the decision to cancel other titles like Suits LA and The Irrational. NBCUniversal’s deal with NBA comes in at more than $2.5 billion per year, which took precedence in this case.

The cast of Found, which also includes Kelli Williams, Brett Dalton, Gabrielle Walsh, Arlen Escarpeta, Karan Oberoi, and Mark-Paul Gosselaar as the villainous Sir, may find luck and get picked up by another platform. But it is overall not too common for a show that has been cancelled by one platform to find life elsewhere once a cancellation decision has been made.

Our Take On Found's Cancellation

It Was Worth A Renewal

NBC Cancels Found Ahead Of The Season 2 Finale

Hailing from showrunner and creator Nkechi Okoro Carroll, who served as executive producer alongside Sonay Hoffman, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, and Lindsay Dunn, the NBC series was never afraid to dig deeper into its characters and switch things up when needed. At a time when a lot of network shows would rather play it safe, Found‘s willingness to change things up made it interesting. But, hopefully, the season 2 finale will be satisfying.

Found season 2 concludes Thursday, May 15 at 10 PM ET and streams the next day on Peacock.
