Recently, a report from Deadline revealed that Netflix is venturing into yet another adaptation of a video game. However, this time, it’s not in the vein of their popular series like The Witcher or the animated rendition of Splinter Cell. Instead, in collaboration with A24, Netflix is reportedly in the early stages of developing a reality cooking competition inspired by the acclaimed indie cooperative game, Overcooked.

The show is anticipated to align with the vibrant format of Netflix’s existing cooking shows, such as Nailed It! and Floor is Lava. Notable figures from Ghost Town Games, including Phil Duncan, Oli De-Vine, and Gemma Langford, are said to be taking on executive producer roles for this adaptation.

While neither Netflix nor A24 have commented officially on the report, Deadline’s credibility gives us reason to believe that further confirmation may be forthcoming. However, as with any rumor, there is always the possibility that this project might not reach fruition.

The potential disappointment of such a cancellation would be significant, as Overcooked is uniquely suited for this type of adaptation. Although some of the chaotic elements players encounter are beyond real-world feasibility—such as chefs tossing ingredients, navigating gaps between cooking stations, and overcoming bizarre culinary limitations—the sheer entertainment value of a practical execution of these mechanics could attract a wide audience.

Let’s hope this project continues to develop and does not get shelved!
