Oh, you thought Squid Game was over? The flagship series is done, but Netflix has other spinoffs in development, including The VIP Challenge – and it’s just revealed its celebrity lineup.
Squid Game Season 3 wrapped up the story of Gi-hun, the Front Man, and the deadly competition for good – at least, for creator Hwang Dong-hyuk. Despite its sharp critique on modern capitalism, the franchise is wildly popular and Netflix isn’t ready to let go.
Alongside a potential Squid Game USA series, the competition series Squid Game: The Challenge returned for Season 2 last November. And now, we’ve got another reality spinoff based on the most divisive collection of characters in the entire show: the VIPs.
The streamer has unveiled the celebrity lineup for its The VIP Challenge, and the announcement has already sparked plenty of reactions from Squid Game fans online.
Squid Game: The VIP Challenge cast revealed
In a new teaser trailer, Netflix revealed the right celebrities who are taking part in the game of strategy, including Tristan Thompson, Mel B, and, amazingly, Viper – the Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 competitor who fans voted to give a second chance. Check it out:
You can find the full list below:
- Ryan Serhant, real estate mogul and star of Owning Manhattan
- Tristan Thompson, NBA champion and professional basketball player
- Mel B, Spice Girls singer and TV personality
- Kristy Sarah, social media content creator
- Kim Zolciak, reality TV star from The Real Housewives of Atlanta
- Hannah Godwin, reality star from The Bachelor franchise
- Dylan Efron, reality competitor who appeared on The Traitors and Dancing with the Stars
- Viper, the Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 player returning after winning the Second Chance Fan Vote
Little is known about what the challenges will entail, but Netflix said the cast will “put their wits, strategies, and skill sets to the ultimate test”.
For now, it’s garnered a strong reaction online, with one writing, “That cast lineup is wild. Dylan Efron and Viper returning is going to make this even more intense.” Another said, “Good, I love Squid Game, continue to improve the universe.”

Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 results, eliminations & winner

What time is Squid Game: The Challenge Season 2 finale on Netflix?

A third added, “From masked observers to players… hope they keep the intensity of the original,” and a fourth commented, “Excited to see how the alliances and drama play out this time.”
However, not everyone is happy about the spinoff, with some suggesting it’s missing the point of what Squid Game is about.
As said by one, “Squid Game was a chance for regular people to have the opportunity to win life changing money and now y’all are adding celebs who already have enough money to increase more of their funds… did y’all lose the plot or what?”
Another wrote, “We have lost the plot and the meaning of the whole show Netflix. Shame on you,” and a third chimed in, “This so dystopian considering the messaging of the show.”
