For fans of a classic Gundam anime series, a transparent treat has just been announced. Bandai is delivering Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam fans an upcoming release of the HG 1/144 Gundam Mk-III [Clear Color] kit.
The Gundam Mk-III originated from the Z-MSV (Zeta Mobile Suit Variations) design in the 1985 Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam TV series. In the show’s storyline, Anaheim Electronics developed the Mk-III using stolen Titans’ technology as the foundation for the next step in mobile suit evolution, following the AEUG’s successful capture of RX-178 Gundam Mk-II units. The see-through variant of the deep-cut suit drops on July 26, sold exclusively at GUNDAM BASE stores for 2,860 yen (approximately US$19.81). Official images can be seen below.

The exclusive comes on the heels of other recent newcomers to GUNDAM BASE’s long-running series of special color variant releases sold solely at their retail locations. The new Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam Bandai drop follows similar releases for Gundam SEED FREEDOM and other anime within the long-running franchise.
A transparent blue and red plastic exoskeleton replicates the mobile suit’s original color scheme, but allows the mechanical details inside to be seen through the plastic. The transparency highlights engineering absent from standard kits, essentially turning the completed model into a presentation of its construction. However, the complex aesthetic doesn’t mean HG 1/144 Gundam Mk-III [Clear Color] is a more difficult build for collectors; high-grade kits are designed for relatively easy assembly while remaining detailed and quality builds.
A similar Gunpla kit with a completely transparent blue design, the MG 1/100 Gouf Ver.2.0 [Clear Color], was also announced to be available from GUNDAM BASE stores. Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam can be streamed on Crunchyroll.
