A new star has now become the top contender for the role of the new James Bond in the upcoming 007 films, putting Henry Cavill behind.

In a surprising twist of fate, where Henry Cavill and Aaron Taylor-Johnson were leading the race for the next James Bond in the 007 franchise, a new wildcard in the form of actor Callum Turner has taken first place. According to the UK bookmaking site Coral, talking with The Standard, the star’s odds of becoming the next Bond have turned in his favor seemingly overnight.
This means that instead of physical specimens like Cavill or even actor Alan Ritchson, we will yet again see a bond that has looked similar to the ones that have come before, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. But what is surely a letdown is the fact that Cavill feels his Bond dreams may be behind him now.
Henry Cavill Feels He Might Be Too Old to Play James Bond

Despite being neck-to-neck with former 007 actor Daniel Craig for the role of James Bond in Casino Royale, Cavill has since been distanced from the potential reality of playing the character in the future. And it seems like even he has started to believe that he may never become the iconic spy of the cinema world.
In a past interview on The Rich Eisen Show, the star was posed with the burning question of whether he was the next Bond in the franchise. After denying any knowledge of whether he was or wasn’t, he claimed that there’s a chance that it may not happen because of his age, saying:
I have no idea. All I’ve got to go off is the rumors. The same information you have. Maybe I’m too old now, maybe I’m not. It’s up to Barbara Broccoli and Mike Wilson and we’ll see what their plans are.
And judging by the recent reports of Turner now gaining the lead in the race for Bond, it seems like he might just have been right, even if the fans don’t want to accept it.

Alan Ritchson Claims He’s Already America’s James Bond

Speaking of actors that would’ve been loved in the role of Bond by their fans, Alan Ritchson was once talked about as becoming an absolute unit of an Agent 007. But according to the star, he’s already playing a similar character on screen.
In an interview with EW, the star compared how his titular role in Prime Video’s Reacher series is the United States’ answer to the UK’s James Bond, along with the fact that he loved his character much more, saying:
It’s funny, I kind of feel like Reacher is the American James Bond. And I’ve never had more fun playing a character. I love those larger-than-life, over-the-top action thrillers and spy movies and the heists that are smart and ahead of the audience.
And with both him and Cavill working on Guy Ritchie’s spy film, titled The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, they proved that they could pull the buff secret agents stint well, Ritchson more than Cavill, at least.
