Netflix and A24 are teaming up to develop an unscripted TV show adaptation of Overcooked, based on Team17’s popular video game. It debuted in 2016 as a cooking simulation game, where multiple players have to work together as chefs. In the game, they must prepare, cook, and serve meals before time runs out in kitchens filled with various obstacles and hazards.
What do we know about Netflix’s Overcooked TV show?
According to Deadline, Netflix’s Overcooked adaptation is being developed as a competition reality series, which will reportedly have the same vibe as the streamer’s family-friendly reality shows like Nailed It! and Floor Is Lava. At the moment, the project is still in the early stages of development. The series will be executive-produced by Gemma Langford, Oli De-Vine, and Phil Duncan from game developer Ghost Town Games and A24.
Since its debut, the video game has won two awards at the British Academy Games Awards for Best British Game and Best Family Game. Due to the first game’s success, it was followed by a sequel in 2018. Afterward, Ghost Town Games also released a remastered version titled Overcooked: All You Can Eat in 2020.
“Overcooked is a co-op cooking game for 1-4 players. Working as a team, you and your fellow chefs must prepare, cook, and serve up a variety of tasty orders before the baying customers storm out,” reads the game’s official description. “Take part in an epic journey across the Onion Kingdom and tackle an increasingly challenging and bizarre gauntlet of kitchens which will push your skills of co-operation and coordination to the very limits.”
