New York Woman Vlogs Her Sister’s Appendix Removal, Leaves Internet Split: ‘I’m Convinced You’re Faking It’

Sisters being sisters

A New York woman decided to vlog her sister’s appendix removal (appendectomy), a video that was eventually shared online. While some were more open to it, viewing it as a coping method in an arguably tense moment, others were not too keen on it, calling the video inappropriate and being legitimately mad about it.

The clip was shared by Allyssa, who is the woman who had her appendix removed. Her sister, Mia, recorded the entire ordeal, with the edited clip being shared on Allyssa’s account, which features mostly lifestyle content. It became her most viral post ever, garnering 3.1 million views, 734,800 likes, and more than 600 comments.

The New York woman recorded her sister in her hospital bed being transferred to surgery. She, however, was in denial, jokingly expecting Allyssa to return to the waiting room and just saying that it was all a ruse. She added, “You’ve done way too much. You’ve kept us here way too long.”

Shortly after, Mia and her family were told that Allyssa had just had her surgery. The sister, however, was still “convinced” that she was “gonna walk through that door and say ‘psych!‘”

I’m convinced you’re faking it until I see the incision wounds,” she added. “And even at that, that’s fake.”

Appendicitis, Surgery Successful

In a follow-up clip, Mia explained that her sister began experiencing sudden stomach pains earlier in the day. Thinking it was gas at first, it turned out that her appendix was on the verge of rupturing. She had appendicitis.

With her sister’s phone in hand, Mia revealed that Allyssa was in the recovery room and that they would visit her shortly. Addressing her sister, who was eventually going to watch the videos she recorded, she told her that they ended up removing her liver, a kidney, and her left lung. Surgeons didn’t, of course, as she was just trying to cheer her sister up, who eventually had to spend the night in the hospital.

In the end, Mia and the sisters’ mother saw her post-surgery, and Allyssa was released the very next day. Allyssa didn’t miss the chance to make it funny, so she included “Ridin’” by Chamillionaire as the background music for Allyssa’s wheelchair discharge.

Social Media Reactions

The video sparked multiple responses online, with many understanding where the New York woman’s vlogging was coming from. One said, “I’m very fluent in sister, and she was terrified.” Another one commented, “As an older sibling, she was 100% trying to cope LOL.”

Others, however, thought that Mia was in the wrong for vlogging her sister’s appendix removal. One wrote, “Isn’t this lowkey rude, or am I wrong.” Another one added, “No, because why is this making me mad.” A third one said, “This would piss me off, sorry…

In the aforementioned follow-up, Mia “apologized” after being called a terrible sister for her vlog. She was being evidently sarcastic, meaning that her biggest supporter was Allyssa herself, as she should.
