Nick Polom apologizes for joking about Texas floods

Twitch: nmplol

Twitch streamer Nick Polom, better known as Nmplol, apologized for comments he made about people affected by the July 2025 Texas floods.

The flooding, caused by intense rain between July 4 and 5, caused the state’s Guadalupe River to break its banks, triggering multiple flash-flood emergencies.

As of writing, more than 40 people, including 15 children, have been confirmed dead.

Nmplol apologizes for “joke” that “went too far”

During fellow OTK member Esfand’s July 5 livestream, Polom, when told on-stream that 12 people had been confirmed dead and many others had gone missing due to the floods, responded, “Is it children?”

“They don’t have much left for anyway, it’s okay,” Polom continued. When another person on stream stated that the children still had their whole lives ahead of them, Polom replied, “Their whole lives? When they’re older, every job is going to be AI. Everything they learn is on ChatGPT. There is no future.”

The clip quickly spread across social media, prompting intense backlash. On July 6, Polom issued an apology on X/Twitter:

“Sorry guys, joke went too far. I wasn’t fully aware of the situation. It’s tragic what’s happened. I’ll be more mindful going forward. Hope everyone stays safe and dry in Texas.”

Responses to Polom’s apology were overwhelmingly unsympathetic. “Bro, are you speedrunning most unlikable person alive or something?” came one reply.

“I’ll believe you’re sorry when I see you make a massive donation to help the survivors. Words are cheap,” another said.

Polom, a co-owner of Austin-based media org OTK, confirmed in 2024 that he and Malena Tudi had seperated. Since then, subsequent filings for the pair’s divorce have revealed that Tudi had accused Polom of “economic and financial abuse.”
