The next movie to star Nicolas Cage has been revealed. This time, the veteran actor is heading to biblical times to help tell one of the lesser-known stories about the childhood of Jesus Christ.
Per Deadline, Cage is among the stars of the upcoming film The Carpenter’s Son, which just had its U.S. rights picked up by Magnolia Pictures. Cage is playing The Carpenter, while FKA Twigs (The Crow) will co-star as Mother with Noah Jupe (A Quiet Place) playing the Boy. Lotfy Nathan (Harka) is the movie’s writer and director. The plan is to give the film a theatrical release later in 2025, but a specific date has not yet been set.
The Carpenter’s Son is inspired by the Infancy Gospel of Thomas. According to a description of the film, it «tells the dark story of a family hiding out in Roman Egypt. Known only as ‘the Boy’, the son is driven to doubt by another mysterious child and rebels against his guardian, the Carpenter, revealing inherent powers and a fate beyond his comprehension. As he exercises his own power, the Boy and his family become the target of horrors both natural and divine.»

Cage is also serving as a producer on the film for Saturn Films. Other producers include Julie Viez for Cinenovo along with Alex Hughes and Riccardo Maddalosso for Spacemaker. David Levine and Nick Shumaker also executive produced for Anonymous Content alongside Noëmie Devide for Goodfellas, Jennifer Venditti, Nathan, and Theo Vieljeux, as well as Eugene Kotlyarenko for Spacemaker.
“With The Carpenter’s Son, Lotfy Nathan has delivered a genre-bending spectacle that defies expectations at every turn,” reads a statement about the film signed by Magnolia Pictures co-CEOs Eamonn Bowles and Dori Begley.
Biblical projects have been finding great success as of late. The TV series The Chosen has been a hit, and the animated film The King of Kings recently had a record-breaking debut in movie theaters. There’s more to come, as Mel Gibson is plotting a sequel to The Passion of the Christ that’s now in development.
Cage frequently appears in movies as one of today’s most prolific actors. His newest film, The Surfer, was recently released in theaters. He also recently starred in the Western action movie Gunslingers with Stephen Dorff and Heather Graham. The actor has several upcoming projects for fans to look forward to as well, one of which will see him playing late NFL legend John Madden in a new biopic also starring Christian Bale. Cage is also starring as Spider-Man Noir in Amazon’s Spider-Noir, a live-action series that will put the actor in the titular role after he voiced the character in the animated Spider-Verse franchise.
The Carpenter’s Son does not yet have a set release date.
