A political aspirant claiming to be a 30-year-old man with dwarfism has withdrawn from an upcoming election after surfaced documents alleged that he’s actually a 15-year-old child.

Mahmud Sadis Buba, from the Kaduna State, Nigeria, hoped to represent the Sabon Gari Federal Constiuency in the Nigerian House of Representatatives ahead of the 2027 elections. Buba presented himself as a 30-year-old All Progressives Congress (APC) party member, keen on serving his community.

However, when some questioned his youthful appearance, Buba said he had dwarfism. As such, he was given affectionate nicknames such as ‘The Wonder of Zaria/Zazzau’, intended to reflect his political ambition and childish look.

Documents challenge age claims

As per The Whistler, several documents, including a birth certificate, a passport, a national identification number slip, and school records, have appeared online, alleging that he was in fact born in 2010, not 1995 as he had claimed. This would’ve made him 15-years-old during the the APC screening process.

The claims reportedly emerged after a man claiming to be Buba’s former teacher said he was in his mid-teens, and a family member revealed that Buba was in fact a younger sibling born in 2010, passing off his older brother’s documents as his own.

The documents have not yet been officially authenticated. Regardless, following mounting public pressure, and consultations with party stakeholders, political associates and family members, Buba has decided to withdraw from the 2027 elections that he originally was set to run for.

For the APC, this controversy has raised many questions about its screening process, with some wondering how someone was able to deceive the party so easily, and get as far as they did.
