Nioh 3 New Game Plus explained
You will unlock New Game Plus in Nioh 3 after completing the main story for the first time. New Game Plus unlocks a new difficulty level called Shogun’s Journey. Don’t panic though, you’ll keep your exploration level progress and be able to continue building on it as you start the journey again.
Now, in true New Game Plus style, the enemies that stand in your way and the missions you need to complete will be harder than your initial adventure. However, you’ll be able to unlock better and more powerful equipment to help you combat the new challenges that stand in your way.
These are the new equipment features and rarity tiers you’ll get in New Game Plus:
- Restoration
- Divine Rarity
- Soul Core Transformation
- Sudama Blessing
- Level Sync

Restoration
This feature lets you restore specific elements like Enemy Bases to allow you to clear and conquer them again (if you’ve already done so in your initial playthrough). To do this you must use items called Scarlet Sands of Despair or Sands of Recollection, and both can be collected by replaying missions by visiting Shrines.
Also, using Scarlet Sands of Despair has an extra effect. When restoring something with this item, the restored area (such as an Enemy Base) will be an enhanced version of the one you previously faced. This does mean they’ll be harder, but they’ll also give you much bigger rewards once you purify them.
Divine Rarity
This new rarity level has stats that are above the Exotic rarity level, which was the rarity level cap on your initial playthrough. Also, the Divine rarity will grant you a randomised Grace effect. With the higher-level enemies you’ll face in New Game Plus, aiming to kit yourself out with weapons of this rarity tier is advisable.
Soul Core Transformation
You can access this at a Shrine and change the special effect on Soul Cores by using Soul Fragments.
Sudama Blessing
Sudama Blessing can be access at a Shrine and this feature lets you increase the drop rate of selected pieces of equipment by spending Ochoko Cups.
Level Sync
Also access via a Shrine, Level Sync lets you decrease your own level to gain better rewards when you take on Battle Scroll missions. It’s worth noting that your Level will only be lowered for a brief amount of time.
