Oklahoma Father Says Police Dismissed Complaint After He Was Harassed For Taking Daughters Into Women’s Restroom: ‘Situation Wasn’t As Black And White’

Turns out, nothing really happened

It’s tough being a single dad on a long road trip with your daughters. And for this father driving to Oklahoma, that already tricky situation became something truly out of this world. Amid a routine stop at a gas station, their trip to the restroom in Florida became a viral moment everyone was talking about. Well, he is back to explain what happened.

Earlier, the dad posted a video where he was confronted by a man, and police were called after he took his daughters into an empty women’s restroom at a Florida QuikTrip. The video went viral, garnering millions of views across social media platforms.

He has now posted an update in response to the one question thousands have asked since the original video took off. The question was reportedly about what happened after the police were called.

According to him, three officers showed up five minutes later and handled the situation professionally.

“The situation wasn’t as black and white as many people may think,” one of the officers told him, adding that a dad taking his young girls into the men’s restroom might be viewed in the same way as him walking into the women’s restroom with his kids.

In the end, the dad said, the officers confirmed he didn’t do anything wrong. “There was really nothing that they could do,” he said.

The man who reported him was asked to leave the premises.

What stayed with him wasn’t the dispute – it was how everyone else stepped in. QuikTrip manager Melissa was immediately there to check in with the girls, help calm everyone down, and make sure the children were safe.

Then the police went directly to his daughters to reassure them that they were protected and didn’t need to be afraid. “It really did put a good image of police officers for my girls,” the Oklahoma dad said. The girls also got free ICEEs before the family got back on their way.

He also weighed in on the thousands of messages he got from parents who found themselves in a similar position. “This isn’t really about one argument in a gas station,” he said. “It’s about the fact that girl dads and boy moms are often put in a situation where there isn’t a perfect answer.”

He emphasized that he does not condone anyone harassing or contacting the parties involved and that he hopes the man who confronted him takes some time to consider how his actions impacted two little girls.

Internet Reacts to Oklahoma Dad’s QuikTrip Restroom Update

One commenter captured the bind many parents feel: “You can’t win! If you take the girls to the men’s bathroom, people will say creeps there, and if the man takes the young girls to the women’s bathroom, they call him creep, like you can’t win literally.”

Many women pushed back on the original complaint entirely. “Good. Women are not against fathers with their young daughters in our spaces. This was insane and unnecessary. The only person disturbing women and little girls was the man screaming outside the ladies restroom,” one person wrote. Another added: “99% of women would not have any issue with this specific situation. This was blown way out of proportion.”

Others directed their frustration at the man who called police. “The [expletive] reporting him should be ashamed for making those little girls cry with his bullying behaviour,” one commenter said. Several pointed out a notable detail from the original video: “He took his two little girls into an EMPTY women’s restroom and the only person that freaked out was a random guy, NOT the female manager. I heard that right?”

The dad is now back home in Oklahoma for the next 45 days with his daughters, and he is focused on enjoying the summer with them as much as he can.
