One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda has literally sunk the biggest secret in anime history to the bottom of the ocean, where it will stay until after the story is completed.

In a special video released on the official One Piece YouTube channel, One Piece creator is seen writing down the answer to the question fans have asked for nearly three decades: What is the One Piece?

The page is torn out, folded in half, locked inside a miniature treasure chest, sealed in a pressure-resistant glass sphere, and then dropped to the bottom of the ocean. It now rests 651 meters below sea level at an undisclosed location, where no one, not even the most savvy of pirates, will be able to reach it.

The answer lies at the bottom of the ocean

One Piece began serialization in 1997 and follows Monkey D. Luffy as he sails the Grand Line in search of the legendary treasure left behind by Gol D. Roger. That treasure, known only as the One Piece, is the ultimate goal of the series.

For almost 30 years, Oda has kept the true nature of the treasure a complete secret. He has previously confirmed that it is a real, physical reward and not something like friendship. Beyond that, nothing concrete has ever been revealed.

Despite countless fan theories, leaks, and speculation, the answer has never surfaced. It’s that mystery that has led to it becoming one of the biggest secrets in modern pop culture, driving millions of readers and viewers to stay invested in the journey.

As for when the truth will finally be revealed, there is still no official end date. Oda has stated multiple times that the manga is in its “final saga,” but no exact conclusion year has been confirmed. The anime adaptation by Toei Animation is ongoing as well, with no announced final episode date.
