We’re just a week away from Season 2 of One Piece dropping on Netflix, and a new trailer has given fans a first look at the villainous Wapol.

Wapol is lead antagonist in the One Piece Drum Island Arc, and he’s set to play a major role in the upcoming season of the live-action series.

In the manga/anime, he’s a cruel king who rules with an iron first, and develops Devil Fruit powers that allow him to eat and fuse objects together, as a way of creating bizarre weapons.

A brief glimpse of Wapol in the final Season 2 trailer suggests that power is being carried over into the Netflix series, and fans are suitably excited.

As played by Rob Coletti, Walpol can be seen at the very end of Season 2’s final trailer. With fur robes and an iron jaw, he battles Luffy, and that jaw soon opens to reveal a giant mouth.

“That Wapol mouth transformation was kind of crazy,” wrote one viewer on YouTube, while another called it “both cool and goofy.”

One fan elaborated on what’s shown, stating: “Wapol’s transformation is more scary than goofy, but it works cause Wapol is both in the anime.”

They continued: “Showing Wapol’s scary side would be a good move cause he is a bad person but because his Devil Fruit is a little goofy and the Drum Island Arc is a little short he isn’t really fully seen for the villain he is… Wapol is finally getting the villain arc he deserves.”

Another One Piecer said: “Wapol’s mouth looks insane. I was really wondering how they’d make it expand, but the fact it’s metal gave them a really cool way to do it.” While someone else adds: “The big tongue coming out is unsettling as heck.”

“I really really like what they did with Wapol,” wrote another viewer. “I thought it’d be impossible to make him look even halfway decent in live action and he looks great.”

While there’s also relief that the show appears to capture his weirdness. “I’m glad Wapol looks so properly freaky because there are certain characters whose powers should be straight nightmare fuel.”

There have also been positive reactions on Reddit. “Wapol is so creepy and terrifying in live action,” wrote one fan of the source material, while another revealed: “I got chills watching him in action.”

“The Wapol transformations are even weirder and more terrifying than I imagined. Really looking forward to see how this will work in the episodes!” said one One Piecer.

While another damns the footage with faint praise, stating: “I still cant believe they actually made Wapol look interesting enough that I’m even excited about him showing up!”
