One Piece fans think they’ve found the real location of the secret behind the One Piece, which Eiichiro Oda has hidden at the bottom of the ocean.

On March 3rd, a video was released on the One Piece YouTube channel showing Eiichiro Oda writing the answer to the question fans have debated for decades: What is the One Piece? The page was then placed inside a miniature treasure chest, sealed inside a pressure-resistant glass sphere, and plunged into the ocean.

It currently sits at 651 meters below sea level, where it will remain until the story of Monkey D. Luffy and his search for the legendary treasure finally concludes. However, a fan now thinks they know where the answer is hidden.

Fans think the secret behind the One Piece is hidden in Japan

According to the Reddit theory, the capsule was likely dropped somewhere off the coast of Japan. The user points to references to the Japanese Coast Guard and Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology in the video description as possible hints that the stunt was carried out with official support.

They also analyzed environmental details in the footage, noting that no land can be seen on the horizon when the camera faces southwest at sunset.

“The sun would be setting Southwest at 4:00 PM, we have a high-angle shot with no land on the horizon. So if the camera/ship is looking SW into open water, the coast should be behind us / to the NE. Based on the drone’s height, we can probably see 30-50km out,” reads the post.”

They also mention that the seafloor shown in the video may offer another hint, as the sediment appears fine and silty rather than rocky or heavily disturbed. This likely means it has been dropped in an area with relatively calm deep-sea currents.

Combining those clues, the user’s best guess is Suruga Bay in Shizuoka Prefecture, a deep bay south of Tokyo that is also frequently used for marine research.

“[The location is close to Tokyo, where Oda lives. Fits all clues, easy to get to, easy to retrieve, no strong bottom currents, no land could be seen if you were looking south west, and a familiar testing ground for the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology.

There’s no confirmation that the capsule was actually dropped there, and the theory remains pure speculation. Either way, the truth about the One Piece is now sitting somewhere on the ocean floor, and that alone is leading fans on their very own quest to unearth the series’ biggest mystery.
