When it comes to Luffy’s teachers, the first and the most significant one that helped him get stronger was Rayleigh. After the events of the Sabaody Archipelago and the Paramount War, where Luffy faced utter defeat and even lost his brother, Rayleigh suggested Luffy train with him for two years and learn the ways of Haki. Rayleigh successfully taught Luffy how to use the basics of all three types of Haki and it was absolutely phenomenal to see Luffy come out of the timeskip stronger than ever before.

What Rayleigh taught Luffy has helped him grow on various occasions, even more recently in the Whole Cake Island and Wano Country arcs. Eventually, all of that led to Luffy reaching the next level as a pirate and becoming one of the Four Emperors of the Sea.

It must also be noted that Hyogoro also momentarily trained Luffy in the Wano Country arc. Although Luffy already had the tools to use advanced Haki, Hyogoro trained him in this art properly, although this training was very short. It did help Luffy immensely, especially in the battle against Kaido in Wano.

Gaban Is Luffy's Last Teacher
While Luffy is already a Yonko and certainly among the strongest in the One Piece world, he isn’t strong enough to counter the Holy Knights and the Five Elders. Few in the world of One Piece know how to counter their powers, and so far, only Scopper Gaban and Joy Boy have shown this ability. The counter to immortality likely lies in some advanced form of Haki that targets the soul. This is most likely an advanced version of Conqueror’s Haki that not many can use.

It will be up to Gaban to expose the weakness of the Holy Knights, as he did in One Piece chapter 1148, and show everyone what they need to do to get around their immortality. Right now, Luffy doesn’t know how to deal damage to them, so he will naturally lose to them. But, Gaban training Luffy in this art, just like Rayleigh taught him the basics, would push him to the next level.
