Marvel Comics’ first Hellfire Gala took place throughout the pages of various X-Titles in 2021. The event was an overtly glamorous affair consisting of high fashion and even higher flying action. The Hellfire Gala was designed to showcase the best, brightest, and most astonishing aspects of mutant culture, all to prove exactly what Krakoa had to offer the rest of the world as a nation. Unfortunately, the most recent Hellfire Gala was also when Orchis launched their all-out war on mutantkind, which played out throughout Marvel’s Fall of X crossover event and gave rise to the ongoing From the Ashes initiative that has enveloped the lives of the X-Men today.
As Marvel Comics’ official synopsis for X-Men: Hellfire Vigil #1 explains, «One year ago, at the final Hellfire Gala, the dream of a unified mutant nation was forever shattered by a cowardly sneak attack by anti-mutant forces. To mark the moment and to proclaim loudly and strongly to all concerned that mutantkind still stands, the time has come for X-Men of all stripes to come together in solidarity and celebration. Featuring the meetings and moments that fans have been asking for since FROM THE ASHES began, be there for a keystone moment marking the movement of one era into the next and setting up story threads that will play out across the X-line in the near future!»
Marvel Comics Executive Editor Tom Brevoort opened up about the production and development of X-Men: Hellfire Vigil #1, as well as what fans can expect from the issue when it arrives on store shelves this summer. «We’ve been working towards the Hellfire Vigil for a year now, and all of the assorted X-creators came together to make this a moment of significance for the X-Men and their world as a whole.» Brevoort went on to note that plenty of major characters will be crossing paths in the upcoming issue, including those who fans have been asking to see do just that since the end of the Krakoan Era. Brevoort explained that the issue is a «capstone to events that began in From The Ashes and sets up major movements that will be playing out across the coming months. Plus it’s full-packed with great art and great character moments.»
X-Men: Hellfire Vigil #1 will be available this July from Marvel Comics.
