Blizzard has revealed the identity of Overwatch‘s 51st hero: Sierra, a new Damage-role character set to join the roster when season 2 launches on April 14.
An animated trailer set on Watchpoint: Grand Mesa introduced her by dropping her into a fight she mostly wins: Sierra intercepts Emre and Freja mid-heist, tags Emre with a homing dart that redirects her rifle fire onto his position, and tethers herself to her drone, DoROTHy, to move around the battlefield.
The dart eventually detonates, and Emre escapes anyway.
Who is Sierra in Overwatch?
No in-game footage yet, but the trailer is a fairly legible preview of how she will play. Alec Dawson, Overwatch’s associate game director, said in February that the season 2 hero would have a “really satisfying skill shot,” and the homing dart is the obvious candidate.
The more interesting question is who she is. Fans had spent weeks convinced hero 51 was Frankie, a Deadlock Gang member from the Deadlock Rebels novel who communicates via a tiny fly-like drone. Sierra has a drone. Sierra has Deadlock ties. Sierra is not Frankie, or at least not obviously: the trailer places her firmly against the gang, not inside it. Whether that’s a retcon, a misdirect, or simply a different character remains unclear.
Season 2, titled Summit, also brings Overwatch’s Nintendo Switch 2 launch on April 14. Blizzard relaunched the game in February without the “2,” adding five heroes at once. Sierra is the sixth of a promised ten new heroes in 2026, each tied to the Talon storyline that kicked off last season.
