Overwatch releases “Ultra” skin bundle that costs more than GTA 6 & players are furious

Blizzard

Overwatch has dropped a new set of Ultra-rarity skins, but players have been left frustrated by how expensive they are.

On June 23, Blizzard released the first Ultra skins in Overwatch, a brand-new rarity that is best described as somewhere between Legendary and Mythic skins. They feature unique sound and kill effects as standard, but don’t allow for the customization of a Mythic.

As the devs explained in the announcement blog, the goal was to give players “more ways to express yourself in-game with fun and creative skins, while giving our artists more opportunities to make skins that are unique in new ways.”

But the one thing that hadn’t been revealed was the price, and now they’re here, many players are angry at how much they cost.

Overwatch releases Ultra skins for $35 each

The “Nyan Cafe” Ultra skins for Kiriko and Sierra cost 3,500 Overwatch Coins each, which is around $35. Meanwhile, the bundles, which contain extra cosmetics like Highlight Intros, cost 4,500 OW Coins — the equivalent of $40.

If you want to purchase both Ultra skins, along with Legendary versions for Orisa, Ashe, and Reaper, there’s a bundle that costs 9,900 OW Coins. This would require you to spend $100 to get the most expensive Coin bundle, which is more than the $80 it takes to buy GTA 6.

Players were quick to respond to the “insane” pricing, with many taking to social media to make their concerns heard.

“So they expect us to pay for skins that are worth more than a couple of games now? Such a shame,” said one player on X, while another posted: “WOW! I can either get the bundle or a week’s worth of groceries whatever shall I choose?”

“Yeah nah i’m good , $35 for a skin is absolutely ridiculous I can buy a whole game with that price,” said another on Reddit.

Blizzard is yet to officially respond to the backlash, so it remains to be seen if the prices are adjusted as more Ultra skins are released, with more confirmed to be coming in future seasons.
