Playing video games and feeling how great it would have been to have the character inside the screen based on you? Well, PlayStation might make your dream a reality. Sony has officially announced The Playerbase, a program that gives the most devoted PS fans a chance to have themselves scanned and placed inside a PlayStation Studios game.
It all kicks off with Gran Turismo 7, with the initiative allowing one lucky fan to appear as an in-game character, and more. If you’re wondering what The Playerbase is, how it works, and how exactly you can throw your name in the ring, here’s everything that has been announced.
What Is The Playerbase and How Does It Work?
The Playerbase is all about getting the fans more involved with the very games they play. This community program allows PlayStation’s biggest fans a chance to have a character in a first-party game based on their own likeness. The initiative starts off with Gran Turismo 7, with further plans to account for other PlayStation Studios titles as well.
For Gran Turismo 7 specifically, the selected fan will receive a special limited-time appearance as an in-game character portrait, much like how other characters are showcased throughout the game. The best part? It doesn’t just stop at the portrait. There will also be a custom Fantasy Logo as well as a one-of-a-kind vehicle livery made with the help of the fan before it’s added to the Showcase menu.
To help with this process, the lucky fan will be invited to PS’s visual arts studio in Los Angeles to help with the scanning of their likeness and to help with designing the promised assets as part of The Playerbase program. How to Apply for The Playerbase
The application to get into The Playerbase program is pretty straightforward. To submit one, head over to PlayStation.com/the-playerbase to find the landing page of the form. Make sure you are signed into your PSN account beforehand before scrolling down the page, where you’ll be asked to answer a few questions about your experiences on the platform.
Every application will be reviewed by the studio to check how each applicant connects to PS before selecting a few finalists who’ll be asked to participate in video interviews. From those finalists, just one fan will be chosen to be featured in Gran Turismo 7.
It is better to be as genuine and specific as you can as you answer your questions. It would also be wise to make sure to link your social media handles in the additional info box the form provides, especially if you have made content around PlayStation or any of their games before.
