A Russian plumbing company has gone viral after making contestants drink from toilets and sit on them for hours to win a cash prize.

The bizarre competition was held at a Domix store in Stavropol, Russia, by local plumbing brand EvaGold.

Dubbed “Game of Thrones,” the contest offered 100,000 rubles, approximately $1,276, to whoever could survive two toilet-themed challenges.

In the opening round, contestants raced to finish a non-alcoholic sparkling drink placed inside brand-new toilet bowls. Footage showed participants leaning over the toilets and drinking through large straws.

Competitors were divided into groups of seven, with the fastest drinker from each group advancing to the second stage. The remaining seven then had to sit on closed toilet seats for as long as possible. After ten hours, only two contestants had reportedly quit, leaving five still fighting for the prize.

Russia toilet drinking contest sparks backlash online

Videos of the competition quickly spread across social media, where many viewers branded the spectacle “degrading.”

Some Stavropol residents also accused the company of damaging the city’s image with the contest.

Organizers insisted the challenge was hygienic despite how it looked. The sparkling drinks were reportedly poured into separate cups with straws before being placed inside clean, unused toilet bowls.

That explanation did little to stop viewers from being disgusted by the sight of people appearing to drink directly from toilets for money.

It remains unclear who ultimately lasted the longest and claimed the 100,000-ruble prize. However, the contest certainly succeeded in attracting attention to the plumbing brand, even if the reaction was not exactly flattering.

While Russians are drinking from toilets, China has been perfecting them. Earlier this year, a Chinese company unveiled a self-driving robot toilet that rolls up to your bed, handles the job, and then returns to its dock to clean itself.

Months earlier, a Chinese car company was granted a patent to develop a voice-controlled toilet that can be used while inside the car.

Whether we see people drink from robo or car toilets in the future remains to be seen.
