How to beat Mega Raichu X in Pokémon Go.

Mega Raichu X was released worldwide in Pokémon Go during July 2026’s Raichu Super Mega Raid Day event, and can be fought in Super Mega Raids. This flavour of Mega Raichu sadly isn’t all that, but it’s essential as a *cough* Pokédex filler, if nothing else (there is, in fact, nothing else). Below you’ll find the Mega Raichu X counters and weaknesses in Pokémon Go, along with a look at shiny Mega Raichu X.

Best Mega Raichu X counters
Mega Raichu X Mega counters
The top picks for Mega counters against Mega Raichu X are Mega Garchomp (Earth Power), followed (at some length) by Mega Mewtwo Y and Mega Mewtwo X. If you don’t have those, Mega Swampert and Mega Rayquaza are options worth considering. Remember, Primal Groudon is sadly not in the running here.
Mega Raichu X non-Mega counters
Shadow Groudon closely follows Mega Garchomp, which is followed in turn by Shadow Garchomp and Shadow Excadrill. Therian Landorus and Shadow Incarnate Landorus follow, rounding out the counters that are better than Mega Mewtwo.
After that it’s pretty much just bring your strongest Ground-type attackers, starting with the work mammoth itself, Shadow Mamoswine.
The Special Anniversary Pikachu Celebration is currently running! Check out the July schedule to learn what the rest of the month holds. There’s a lot to do in Pokémon Go outside of the current event! From the Go Battle League, Remote Trading, PokéStop Showcase, Routes and Max Battles. Don’t forget to catch rare Pokémon while you’re at it.
How to beat Mega Raichu X
Super Mega Raids aren’t easy, and Mega Raichu X only has one weakness you can exploit. Just keep hammering it with the Pokémon it’s weak to — and have a couple of back-up teams set for if you wipe out and need to jump back in — and it will eventually fall.
When it comes to your choice of Mega Evolution, you’re really only looking at Mega Garchomp. The rest of your counters should ideally be an army of Shadow Groudon. If that’s not realistic, fair enough — Shadow Garchomp are in much larger supply, as is Lando Catrissian (Therian Landorus) with Sandsear Storm. That is a reasonable and readily accessible counter for a lot of players.
Remember, this is going to be tough. It’s highly recommended to fight Mega Raichu X alongside at least nine other trainers. While you may be able to defeat it with a lower number, you will need finely tuned, optimal teams to even hope for a win. If you’re a very high-level trainer with optimal counters, you might be able to do this with five or six similarly high-level friends.

Best Mega Raichu X Moveset
My recommendation for the best Mega Raichu X moveset is Thunder Shock as a Fast Move and Wild Charge as a Charged Move to make the most of its STAB. However, it’s much more effective in its other flavour, Mega Raichu Y.
If you fancy using your Raichu in PVP, we’d recommend Great League, where it’s ok… You’d be looking at Brick Break — a Fighting-type debuff spam attack — as your second Charged Move.
Here’s Raichu X’s full moveset in Pokémon Go:
Fast Moves
- Charm (Fairy)
- Spark (Electric)
- Thunder Shock (Electric)
- Volt Switch (Electric)
Charged Moves
- Brick Break (Fighting)
- Skull Bash (Normal)
- Surf (Water)
- Thunder Punch (Electric)
- Trailblaze (Grass)
- Wild Charge (Electric)
Legacy Charged Moves
- Thunder (Electric)
Is shiny Raichu X in Pokémon Go?

Yes, shiny Raichu X is in Pokémon Go! Shiny Raichu X was released alongside this Mega Evolution itself during the Super Raid Day event. The base form, shiny Raichu, has been in the game since 2017 — the joint third release alongside Pikachu and Pichu. In a cool nod to the Pokémon Gold and Silver, the only shiny Pokémon available before this were shiny Magikarp and shiny (red) Gyarados!
As you can see, Shiny Raichu X keeps the colouring of regular Raichu — a nod to how the regular Mega Raichu X is a Raichu doing Pikachu cosplay…
Best of luck defeating Mega Raichu X in Pokémon Go!
