Pokemon TCG Pocket: What Are The Rarest Cards? (So Far)

Here is a fact-based summary of the story contents: Here is a simplified version of the story contents: Here is a lighthearted take on the story contents: Explore a different perspective:

One of the main selling points of Pokemon TCG Pocket is that it’s a fundamentally free-to-play game with daily booster packs to open, a lot of cards to collect, and a deckbuilding aspect for competitive matches, appealing to most fans of the series with its formula. Despite the game being relatively generous in terms of freebies, with lots of free events and Hourglasses for booster packs and Wonder Pick alike, Pokemon TCG Pocket is still a gacha game at heart, and collecting all cards is much more complicated than it may seem. For this reason, it’s hard to pinpoint a single rarest card in Pokemon TCG Pocket, but there are several options.

There are two main criteria for determining the rarest cards in the game. The first is simply the chance to get a given card in each booster pack, so the rarest Pokemon TCG Pocket cards as designed. The second is based on which cards are more easily available to all players, be it from booster packs or elsewhere. For these reasons, there are around 13 very rare cards in the game, with the number bound to vary when Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s next set comes out at the end of July.

When it comes to the rarest cards one can get from booster packs, Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Crown Gold rares take the top spot. These are the rarest cards in each expansion, typically by Immersive rare cards, then Rainbow rares, and so on. As of Eevee Grove, the rarest cards in the game are as s:

It’s worth noting that, whenever there are two or three packs in a given expansion, the percentage for each card to be a Gold Crown rare in a God Pack applies only to that specific pack’s corresponding Gold Crown rare. For example, Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Charizard Ex in its Gold Crown rare form has a 5% chance to be found in each slot of a God Pack if Charizard was the chosen booster pack.

Still, all Gold Crown rares can be found in all packs of their expansion, either in the fourth slot or the fifth slot of each pack.

Technically, Gold Crown Charizard Ex, Pikachu Ex, and Mewtwo Ex are the rarest cards in the game because they each have an inferior probability of being pulled due to Pokemon TCG Pocket‘s Genetic Apex being the only three-pack set. At the same time, this set has been around the longest, so one could argue that the rarest card in the game in terms of how many players have it may be the Gold Crown version of Eevee Bag since it’s the newest release.

Pokemon TCG Pocket's Rarest Card May Be a Promo

Pokemon TCG Pocket: What Are The Rarest Cards? (So Far)

Regardless of the percentage to get each card in booster packs, there is another possibility. The rarest card in Pokemon TCG Pocket may be Lapras Ex, as it was a mechanically unique card introduced with the very first drop event for the game, soon after its launch, meaning only some of the players who have been around all this time have it. There is no Lapras Ex in Genetic Apex, so this promo card is very unique. At the same time, those who own one or more copies of Lapras Ex may not have any Gold Crown rares or multiple ones, so this blurs the line a bit.
