
A popular AMC show has been renewed for a fifth season ahead of its upcoming Season 4 premiere.
The fourth season of Dark Winds premieres on AMC and AMC+ later this month. Created by Graham Roland, the psychological thriller show, which is based on the Leaphorn & Chee novel series by Tony Hillerman, first premiered in 2022.
What AMC show has been renewed for Season 5?
Per Deadline, Dark Winds has now officially been renewed for a fifth season. Production will begin in Santa Fe, New Mexico, next month. Season 5, which will have eight hour-long episodes, will then be released in 2027.
“Over four seasons, Dark Winds has masterfully blended compelling character-driven stories, Navajo culture, spirituality and breathtaking cinematography. We are elated to continue the journey alongside showrunner John Wirth and the incomparable Zahn McClarnon,” AMC’s Dan McDermott said in a statement. “Our extraordinary producing and creative team, cast and crew have crafted a gripping crime drama that continues to be embraced by fans and widely celebrated by critics. We can’t wait to share more of this incredible story with audiences across the globe.”
Dark Winds Season 4 premieres at 9 p.m. on February 15, 2026. New episodes will continue to be released on Sundays following that.
“Season 4 focuses on the search for a missing Navajo girl, which takes Leaphorn, Chee and Manuelito from the safety of Navajo Nation to the gritty terrain of 1970s Los Angeles in a race against the clock to save her from an obsessive killer with ties to organized crime,” Deadline’s article reads.
In addition to McClarnon as Lt. Joe Leaphorn, the cast of the show also includes Kiowa Gordon as Jim Chee and Jessica Matten as Bernadette Manuelito. Season 4 guest stars include Franka Potente, Isabel DeRoy-Olson, Chaske Spencer, Luke Barnett, and Titus Welliver.
The first three seasons of Dark Winds are currently available to stream on AMC+ and Netflix.
