What is the Plot of Project Hail Mary?
Based on the 2021 novel of the same name by Andy Weir, Project Hail Mary follows the story of Ryland Grace (played by Ryan Gosling), a man who awakens on an interstellar spacecraft with no memory of how he came to be there.
Awakening on a spacecraft with no memory of himself or his mission, Ryland Grace deduces himself as the sole survivor of a crew sent to the Tau Ceti system to save Earth from disaster. To do so, he must rely on his vast array of scientific knowledge, sheer ingenuity, and human will.
But he soon discovers that he is actually not alone: On the spacecraft, he is accompanied by an alien whom he dubs Rocky, who has come to save his world from the same fate (via Deadline Hollywood).

The cast of Project Hail Mary includes Ryan Gosling as Dr. Ryland Grace; Sandra Hüller as Eva Stratt, Ryland’s superior and the head of the Hail Mary project; Lionel Boyce as Officer Steve Hatch; Ken Leung as Yáo Li-Jie and Milana Vayntrub as Olesya Ilyukhina, the crewmembers of the Hail Mary project; James Ortiz as the voice and lead puppeteer of Rocky; and Priya Kansara as the voice of Mary, the Hail Mary ship.
The movie has been made on a reported budget of $150 million (via Variety), and is distributed by Amazon MGM Studios in the U.S. and Canada and by Sony Pictures Releasing International internationally.
