Project Runway All Stars alum Isaac Mizrahi has once again generated public scrutiny with his latest remarks. Infamous for groping Marvel star Scarlett Johansson, the fashion designer’s latest remarks are aimed at another MCU star: Gwyneth Paltrow.
Mizrahi, who is also an actor, plays Paltrow’s publicist in Marty Supreme, and recently told PEOPLE:
I used to make clothes for Gwyneth in the ’90s. I swear to you, I remember when she used to come in for fittings. She would leave after things, and I’d say that girl has the most fabulous ass I’ve ever seen. She has the best ass in show business, I mean that.
The designer also added that this is the one thing he remembers about the Iron Man star, apart from finding her hilarious and so good in the movie.
What Happened Between Isaac Mizrahi and Scarlett Johansson?
In 2006, during a live red carpet interview at the Golden Globe Awards, Isaac Mizrahi, then a prominent fashion personality and later a Project Runway All Stars judge, grabbed Scarlett Johansson’s br**st while commenting on her outfit. The moment aired on television and quickly circulated online.
Johansson, who was 21 at the time, appeared visibly uncomfortable but attempted to laugh off the incident in the moment. In an interview after the incident, Johannson told the Los Angeles Times that Mizrahi’s actions were in poor taste.
I’d been prepping for two hours with hair and makeup and getting dressed. And the first interview I do, someone who I have never met before fondles me for his own satisfaction.
Stating that she was shocked, the actress added on:
Mostly, I was thinking, ‘Oh, my god. This is happening on live TV.’ I don’t think he got a huge thrill out it. He was making some shocking show or whatever for his channel and wanted to be different and racy and all of those thing.
However, she added that she is not mad at him and that she can take care of herself, as she is from New York. But ScarJo wasn’t the only one who had an uncomfortable incident with Mizrahi, as he asked several other actresses on the red carpet uncomfortable questions, such as whether they were wearing any underwear.
Later, when asked if he thinks he had crossed any line, he stated (via TODAY):
Do I think I crossed the line? I don’t know why you can’t ask that question on TV. I don’t think that question is improper in certain terms if you are at home and you know her and you are relaxing but on a red carpet live TV show… Well, that’s what history told us. That it was somewhat controversial. But I don’t know. I didn’t feel in the moment that it was controversial.
He also denied groping Scarlett Johansson, maintaining that he only touched the dress to see if there was any br* underneath the dress. Moreover, he refused to apologize since he didn’t think he did anything wrong, but added that if anyone felt offended, he was sorry.
Was Isaac Mizrahi Fired From Project Runway All Stars?
Isaac Mizrahi was not formally fired from Project Runway All Stars. He served as a judge on the spin-off show from 2012 to 2019, departing the series quietly without any public disciplinary action tied to either the Johansson incident or later controversies.
His departure coincided with routine cast reshuffling and format changes, a common practice for the franchise. As such, there is no evidence that he faced professional consequences from the show directly related to his on-camera behavior.
While he has moved on with his career, the original Project Runway is still running with Season 22 scheduled to debut in 2026 on Freeform, Hulu, and Disney+.
