Mods on Reddit are unsure just how long Old Reddit will be around for, despite promising to keep it going for as long as people use it.
While there are plenty of places to discuss things online, Reddit remains one of the most popular sites to do so. The forum-like site covers all corners of the internet and niche interests, allowing people to delve into pretty much any topic they want.
Reddit has undergone some revamps over the last few years too, pushing users to use the new style of layout, as well as the official app on iOS and mobile devices.
There are still ways to access the Old Reddit style of the website, but users have long feared that it will be shut down out of the blue.
Reddit mod addresses future of Old Reddit
On June 30, Reddit mod Boat-Botany noted that they “can’t promise” just how long the old style of the site will be around for, despite many users still wanting to use it.
“Is Reddit shutting down Old Reddit? A: Not right now! We can’t promise it will be around forever, but u/spez himself has said we’ll keep supporting it while folks are still using it,” … said.
“That said, it doesn’t have the same modern security tech stack reddit.com has so we need to tighten security on old Reddit to keep it viable.”

It came off the back of Boat-Botany’s own post, noting that users will be required to log into Reddit to use the Old Reddit styling.
“Old Reddit’s logged-out experience is a significant source of abusive scraping and automated traffic on the platform. It’s also an important interface for many long-time mods and redditors,” they noted.

The answer about Old Reddit’s future did not go down well with fans who want it to stick around long-term.
“Oh boy, you’ve changed your long-standing answer about keeping old Reddit,” one disappointed user replied. “Beginning of the end IMO,” annotated commented.
“So you went from “we are not taking away old reddit” to “Not right now”. I feel an impending sense of doom,” another added. “You’re gonna lose so many people who hate “new” reddit. Just don’t f*ck with it,” another chimed in.
Back in December, Reddit announced that the r/Popular feed would be removed, claiming that it “sucks.”
