Arc System Works has been putting out quality games for decades now, including the ever-popular Guilty Gear franchise. That said, among mainstream fans, nothing is more influential than Dragon Ball FighterZ, a traditional fighting game take on the iconic Dragon Ball Z franchise.
Now, it seems like Arc System Works is ready to enter the spotlight once again, as a reliable leaker has revealed that it has a new game coming that will seemingly be exclusive to the Nintendo Switch 2. What’s more, it’s targeting a late November release.
It's Unclear What The Game Is, But Fans Do Have Some Theories
To start, the working codename for the game, according to the leaker, is Watari. And while hardcore anime fans might immediately think of the Death Note character, the word Watari can also be another word for crossover. One fan theorized it could be another crossover fighter among the Arc System Works franchises.
How would a Death Note fighting game even work?
With it being a Nintendo exclusive, at least for the time being, other fans are convinced it could be a Smash Bros. game, except as a traditional fighter. That would be a pretty wild end result, but as one gamer noted, «Smash works because of its casual focus.»
Finally, there is hope that it could be an anime fighter involving another iconic franchise, like Naruto. For what it’s worth, back in 2023, the CEO of Arc System Works, Minoru Kidooka, shared that a One Piece fighting game is «something to think about» and not outside the realm of possibility.
Either way, given that the game is targeting a late 2025 release, it shouldn’t be too long before there is an official reveal of some sort. Bear in mind Summer Game Fest is next month, and it is exactly 27 days away, so buckle up fighting game fans.
