Resident Evil Requiem scenes were recorded in near-total darkness, with stunt performers physically stepping in to sell the realism.
You’ve probably seen the hilarious mods that make Resident Evil Requiem look way less scary than it actually is. But jokes aside, it’s still a full-on horror game at its core, and Capcom made sure that tension was just as real behind the scenes.
In an interview with PCGamesN, Angela Sant’Albano, who plays newcomer Grace Ashcroft, shared how far the studio went during recording to help bring that fear to life.
It turns out the setup was designed to feel as close as possible to having a “real-life zombie running at you.”

Sant’Albano described Capcom as “amazing” when it came to creating “visual stimulus” for the cast. It wasn’t just a case of standing in a booth and pretending.

capcomGrace Ashcroft isn’t quite as action-hero-coded as Leon, at least to start.
To crank up the realism, the studio built out parts of the recording space with desks and key props to resemble in-game environments, while stunt performers would physically interact with the cast, sometimes even charging at them or tugging at them mid-scene.
The kicker is that, just like Grace, who can be seen wandering in the dark a lot, the same thing applies to the actress as well.
“We would turn off all the light [in] the studio, and we would only operate by flashlight or camera light on our head — I think [Capcom was] very good at trying to make the situation feel as close to what it was without, you know, having a real-life zombie running at you,” she explained.

To help sell some of the more gruesome moments, the team also showed the cast early renderings of creatures or described specific gory details so they could better picture what they were reacting to.
One example was: “Maybe it has this sore, and the sore is particularly gory on the left hand.”
Whether Resident Evil Requiem lands as terrifying is up to players. Some have already decided to dial down the horror by playing as an Umamusume character.
