Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

While the planets and biomes of Revenge of the Savage Planet are entertaining enough to traverse by themselves, they’re made infinitely more enjoyable thanks to the colourful cast of creatures that populate them.

Each planet has a largely unique roster of different species for you to capture and battle depending on your goals. While all of these creatures have their own merits, some are significantly more enjoyable to deal with than others. Out of the wide selection of creatures in Revenge of the Savage Planet, which shines the most?

10 Grab Grub

Found In Xephyr

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

Xephyr is the first new planet you’ll explore after leaving the hub world of Stellaris Prime, and while it isn’t too challenging to explore, the toughest step up in difficulty comes in the larger packs of enemies you’ll have to deal with.

This is why Grab Grubs stand out. Even though they’re occasionally found in groups, they’re usually hidden waiting to ambush you while you least expect it. One second you’re exploring the vast desert dunes, the next you’re being dragged into the gaping maw of the Grab Grub — it’s why exploring Xephyr is so dynamic.

9 Brainard

Found in Stellaris Prime

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

While most of the creatures in Revenge of the Savage Planet put up some kind of challenge in combat, the ones that stand out for their complete passivity are Brainards. The first creature you find, wandering around the beaches of Stellaris Prime, it stings a little to have to harvest their resources, since they really did nothing to deserve it, even if kicking them about is incredibly satisfying.

Their adorable mushroom-themed design is made even cuter when they start shaking and eventually inflate their heads if you get too close. They serve their role as a mascot perfectly, and it’s always relaxing to go and play with them in the habitat enclosure when you get the chance.

8 Toxwin

Found In Zenithian Drift

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

Nothing can prepare you for getting to the highest peak of Zenithian Drift and being face-to-face with the unnerving, but still somehow charming Toxwins. These sickly creatures are found flourishing in their toxic environment, and it only takes a tiny sign of aggression for them to start blasting streams of poison in an attempt to defend themselves.

While you might feel guilty about taking out some of the cuter creatures in Revenge of the Savage Planet, with Toxwins it feels like you’re putting them out of their misery. As fun as it is to watch them waddle around, it does seem like their life is a constant state of suffering.

7 Savannah Eraffe

Found In Quasadron IX

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

You’re never given a chance to go idle on Quasadron IX. It feels like no matter where you decide to stand still, one of the hostile creatures will start to attack you with little warning, and it can make the last main planet one of the most exhausting.

That’s why it’s so refreshing when you can spend some time just chilling with the Savannah Eraffes. These passive creatures will happily wonder around in a group, not really panicking even if you get close. They get quite alarmed when you try to fight or capture them though, so after you catch one, maybe it’s best to just let the rest of them live in peace.

6 Hognork

Found In Stellaris Prime

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

While it isn’t as grand as some of the later encounters, the Hognork still counts as the first boss in Revenge of the Savage Planet, and depending on when you discover it, it can be a pretty intense challenge.

Being one of the most aggressive creatures in the game, especially when compared to the rest of the fauna on Stellaris Prime, the Hognork is a tough obstacle. You’ll only be able to beat it once you’ve discovered its weak spot, but even then, dodging its speedy tackles makes it one of the hardest early-game combat encounters.

5 Crusher

Found In Zenithian Drift

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

After you’ve gotten comfortable with the gameplay loop of Revenge of the Savage Planet, and you’re fully kitted out with a roster of upgrades, most of the standard enemies won’t cause much trouble. But even when you’re as powerful as you can get, the Crushers will still pose a threat.

Their only proper weak spot is their tail, and with how often these giant crustaceans are twisting and tackling, you’ll barely get a chance unless you can quickly learn to strafe using the dodge upgrade. Even then, these creatures often hunt in packs, but because of this, they provide one of the most engaging challenges in the game.

4 Vaperon

Found In Xephyr

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

In the early hours of Revenge of the Savage Planet, most of the enemies and creatures you come across will display relatively predictable behaviour, and that’s what makes running into the Vaperon for the first time so jarring.

Instead of using a standard series of attacks, the Vaperon has teleporting abilities, so as soon as you’ve got a shot lined up, they’ll warp right behind you to launch another volley of projectiles your way. While they can be annoying in group battles, they’re still one of the more entertaining creatures to take on, especially so early in the game.

3 Detonaton

Found In Zenithian Drift

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

While most of the smaller and cuter creatures in Revenge of the Savage Planet tend to be quite passive, the Detonaton stands out from its cuddly counterparts by being one of the most aggressive enemies in the game.

Most creatures won’t attack unless you get close enough or fight first, but the Detonatons have no such patience, and they’ll seek you out as soon as you’re vaguely in their line of sight. Their chasing and eventual exploding make them some of the most engaging creatures to deal with, especially when they interrupt an otherwise normal fight. While their explosions deal a hefty blow, the bounce you get from the blast at least gives you enough air time to readjust your position in battle.

2 Lurid Striped Puffer

Found In Quasadron IX

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

Waiting until the fourth and final main planet to show up, the Puffers pulled the short straw, since for such a stacked late-game planet, they don’t really stick out compared to the other creatures on Quasadron IX. However, that only serves to make their rarer variant stand out even more.

The Lurid Striped Puffer is one of the most entertaining creatures to deal with in combat, thanks to its unique defense mechanism. Exploding in a devastating rainbow blast as soon as they’ve taken enough damage, this twisted take on My Little Pony is a great way to create chaos on the battlefield.

1 Tatushkey

Found In Quasadron IX

Revenge Of The Savage Planet: 10 Best Creatures

Quasadron IX has one of the most unique atmospheres out of all the biomes in Revenge of the Savage Planet, and part of the reason why is the speeding screams of the Tatushkey. You don’t even need to attack this hysteric bird for it to start running all around the grassy plains, with its piercing scream echoing in and out of the background ambience.

The Tatushkey also has one of the more interesting techniques for capturing too. Thanks to how flimsy the bird is, you can’t even weaken it with shots since it’ll die in one hit, so you’ll instead need to lay traps using Ferro Goo for it to slow down. Even attempting to run through the sticky substance, the stubborn Tatushkey will still refuse to stop screeching.
