RuneScape Dragonwilds was released in early access recently. Let’s look on the future of this survival.
Four years ago, Iron Gate released one of the most successful survival games – Valheim. It is still in development and slowly receives new content. However, the industry is not waiting for anyone. Since then, many competitors have decided to emerge. One of them is RuneScape Dragonwilds, which debuted on PC yesterday. As you might expect, it’s a survival set in a fantasy world (in the universe of the classic MMORPG, RuneScape, to be precise). So, players gather resources, craft many items and develop skills. However, similarly to many other games in the genre, Dragonwilds was launched in early access and is not finished. However, developers shared the roadmap. Let’s look at it.
RuneScape Dragonwilds roadmap
The studio responsible for RuneScape: Dragonwilds – Jagex – revealed a roadmap. Thanks to that we now know what to expect in the later stages of early access and there are things which we should be waiting for.
Features in development
- New region called Fellhollow, a domain of undead, with the soul-eater dragon Imaru as a ruler.
- New skills from all categories: Magic, Ranged and Farming. Moreover. Skill cap itself will be also raised.
- Of course, fresh quests and gear are also points on the roadmap. Be ready to listen to new music and learn more about lore of this interesting world, too.
- Two additional game modes – hardcore and creative.
- At some point we will get a new enemy – lesser dragon – and more animals.
- Improvement of the building feature – expanded base and defenses.
- Additional vaults.
- More crafting tiers
Ongoing improvements
- Lighting and weather.
- Multiplayer and difficulty.
- Performance.
- Combat.
- Messaging and Tutorialisation.
In the interview, Mod Doom, Jagex senior community manager, revealed that studio’s plan assumes regular updates every three to four months. It’s really ambitious statement.
However, you have to remember that developers’ plans don’t always work out. The story with aforementioned Valheim is a perfect example. Back in 2021, Iron Gate planned to bring four updates to the game. Unfortunately, creators had to delay the new content. Ultimately, the last position on the outdated roadmap, the new biome called Mistland, did not appear until late 2022. Even in 2025 we still don’t know when version 1.0 will be released.
