Whatever happened to Magnetic Man? That’s the question posed by Amazing Spider-Man issue 662 and, fourteen years after this ex-con turned his life around, the comic’s never revisited him. But, going by the trailer for Distant Shore: Bretagne, he’s got a new job as the protagonist of a sandbox FPS.
Admittedly, there’s no official connection, as much as we’d love a game where you play as Spidey’s small-time foes. But Distant Shore: Bretagne’s magnetic gauntlets are a dead ringer for Magnetic Man’s own, and we’re grinning at the prospect of wielding them.
Currently in development, Distant Shore: Bretagne has you roaming an abandoned research area, in search of your lost brother, while dodging “..a sentient weather entity that watches your every move” (insert your own Welcome to Night Vale joke here).
The game’s latest trailer, which you can watch above, shows the game, and your magnetic skills in action. It reminds us a little of Half-Life 2, crossed with that one terrifying skyscraper section from The Last of Us: Part 2. We’re certainly digging the complex’s dusty, hastily-abandoned look.
Your magnetic gauntlets can be used to break, bend and move metal, but the game’s emphasis is on parkour, not base building, as you manipulate objects to clear and create paths. This isn’t a linear outing, however, you’ll be able to access any visible location, provided you put the work in.
Distant Shore: Bretagne doesn’t currently have a release date, but you can wishlist it now on Steam. Or if you’re looking for a vertigo-inducing game you can play right now, Mirror’s Edge is 65% off at GOG.
