Sarah Michelle Gellar Confirms Her Exciting Casting in Sequel to 6-Year-Old Horror Hit With 89% RT Score

Sarah Michelle Gellar is one of the new cast members of the upcoming Ready or Not 2. The highly anticipated sequel revealed its title, Ready or Not: Here I Come, recently.

The thriller horror Ready or Not came from Radio Silence, aka Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett. The movie was a massive critical and commercial success, and a sequel was announced to be in development in March 2024. Shortly after the cast and title announcement, Gellar confirmed during an appearance on the Today show that she is part of the upcoming sequel.

The appearance featured an unexpected Buffy the Vampire Slayer reunion, as Gellar joined forces with her former co-star Alyson Hannigan to discuss their partnership with GSK for the Ask2BSure campaign to raise awareness of meningitis vaccinations. When asked about current projects, the hosts brought up the fact that Gellar arrived from Toronto, Canada, where the sequel is currently in production.

The actress confirmed she was filming the Ready or Not sequel. However, it does come with a twist: she can’t say much about it. «Absolutely nothing,» she clarified when pressed for details. «They have sworn us to secrecy, I can’t even tell you my character’s name.«

They have sworn us to secrecy.

She refused to share anything about the plot, and Hannigan jumped in, «It’s a movie.» Gellar continued, «It’s a sequel to Ready or Not, which was one of those movies that I saw and I was like, ‘Why couldn’t I be in that movie? I want to play that role 15 years ago,’ but then here I am.»

Ready or Not was a major hit. The horror had Samara Weaving in the leading role, and featured an ensemble cast including Adam Brody, Andie MacDowell, Mark O’Brien, Elyse Levesque, Henry Czerny, and Nicky Guadagni. Directing duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett were at the helm, with a script by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. The movie grossed $56.7 million worldwide against a modest budget of $6 million, and received a score of 89% from the critics and 78% from the audience on Rotten Tomatoes.

The horror film followed a new bride, who, on her wedding night, plays a deadly game with her new in-laws, who believe they have to haunt her or an evil spirit will kill them all.

Who Else Stars in Ready or Not 2?
